Grand Finale of IEEE I2CONECCT-2021

The Grand Finale was held on 26th June 2021 in virtual mode. A total of 45 teams took part in the evaluation process on various themes such as Data Science & Machine Learning, VLSI & Embedded Systems, Humanitarian Technology, Networking & Security, and Robotics. The shortlisted projects were evaluated by the experts from NIT Surathkal, MIT Manipal, NMAMIT Nitte, etc.
IEEE_I2CONECCT The programme came to an end with the Valedictory Ceremony which was held at 4:00 PM through Google Meet in the presence of the Chief Guest - Dr. Niranjan U C, Director Research and Training, Manipal Dot Net Pvt. Ltd and the Guest of Honor - Dr. Pushparaj Shetty D IEEE Chair-Mangalore Subsection. The IEEE Execom members, Faculty Volunteers of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, and the Team Leaders of teams that participated in the Grand Finale attend this event. At the end of the programme, the winners list in various themes was announced.

Deputy General Manager-HR, John Cockerill India Limited, Mumbai, conducted Class for first year MBA on HRM Subject – “Recruitment & Selection

Recruitment Mr. Srikanth Kalyanasundaram, Deputy General Manager- HR, John Cockerill India Limited, Mumbai, Member of Leaders Excellence at Harvard Square, industrial expert addressed the students of first year MBA regarding issues in “Recruitment & Selection” in the Subject named Human Resource Management. The speaker started the session by narrating a real story connecting it to the topic of discussion. He gave an insight on the Recruitment process with examples. He also threw light on how a wrong recruitment would affect a company. He highlighted on the points which need to be included in the CV and also answered all the queries which were raised by the students. He also conducted a surprise Mock interview for the students and they actively took part in it.

A Session on Aspiration Building for students of the Young Leadership Program (YLP) organized by NAIN and SHINE Foundation

Inspiration propels a person from apathy to possibility and transforms the way we perceive our own capabilities. On this account, the Young Leadership Program organized the session on ‘Learning from the lives of successful entrepreneurs’ on 26th June 2021. Mr. Siddharth Nair, the Founder of Xfinito Biodesigns, shared his journey with the students - His college life, where he emphasized how important it was to believe in instinct. With his rich experience as an Entrepreneur, he guided the aspiring leaders on the challenges they may have to go through as an entrepreneur. He also shed light on the importance of persistence, resilience especially when things do not work on the very first go. He elucidated the possibility of getting inspired from the surrounding, with his experience of starting a company.
Further, there were some intriguing questions from the audience which were addressed appealingly. The session was hosted by Keerthi Kamath, a second-year student of Information Science & Engineering. The session concluded with Siddharth signifying the importance of mental health.

BYJU'S conducted a Virtual Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students from the 2020 outgoing batch. The hiring is for the role of Business Development Associate with a salary package of INR 10LPA.

Faculty Members Recognized as Skill Trainers under MSDE & NSDC, GOI - Certified by BRIDGE & MEPSC

BRIDGE BRIDGE (BOSCH Initiative) and Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC) conducted a “Train The Trainer” (TTT) program spanning over 5 days in an online mode. This training was followed by a dual assessment approach, wherein the first one was a theoretical and subject-based assessment followed by Face2Face Interview.
Prof. Manjunatha Kamath and Prof. Monisha Shetty from Dept. of Business Administration and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor, Academics Department has successfully completed this training, cleared the assessment and have received an Accredited Certification from MEPSC & Bosch. They are registered as a Certified Skill Trainer under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). They can hereafter, be aligned with the Skill Development training projects of the Government and other agencies. BRIDGE - an initiative of Bosch India Foundation initiated this programme for present and potential trainers. This is an important initiative in view of the National Education Policy to be implemented from the 2022 session.
Recently, Sahyadri had a MoU with The Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD), Mangaluru/Udupi Chapter which is opening multiple opportunities for Faculty and Students.

Phase III: AICTE Sponsored One-Week STTP on “Innovative Approaches in Teaching Pedagogy”

AICTE Day Three: 26th June 2021, Saturday

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Academic Program Chair, Industrial Engineering Technology, Higher Colleges of Technology, Abu Dhabi Women’s College, Abu Dhabi on the topic - “Building Human Values”

Dr. Bhushi is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology. He has vast experience of 33 years teaching and augmented with 12 years as Principal of various engineering colleges. He is also the Director, Strategic Planning at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru.
Dr. Bhushi emphasized on converting information into knowledge and knowledge to wisdom. He shared real time examples to share his idea of building human values not only among student community but also be Role models for strong value system. Dr. Bhushi said progress is guaranteed only when growth is embedded with ethics, discipline and honesty.

Dr. Sampath Kumar, Associate Dean (RDIC), Dr. AKTU, Lucknow on the topic - “Competency Based Learning”

He is a B.E, M.Tech and Ph.D from UPTU in association with IIT Delhi. He has 4 patents in the field of Memory Design. Dr. Sampath Kumar shared the information with a humble recognition that, learning becomes more effective by using Digital Pedagogy. Each student has their own skills and as faculty, we need to identify those unseen skills of the students. Competency-Based Learning can be an effective model, potentially reducing inefficiency and increasing pedagogical precision and student achievement.

Dr. Sanjay K Deshpande, Professor, KLS IMER, Belagavi on the topic - “Lessons through Great Epics of India

Dr. Sanjay shared information on Management concepts from the Ancient Hindu Epics – the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. He narrated stories that depicted Professional Ethics and its importance.

Dr. Radha Raman Mishra, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, BITS-Pilani on the topic - “Design Thinking"

Dr. Mishra has served as a Project Officer, the Design Innovation Center, IIT Roorkee. The session involved activities on Designs with the help of various innovative tools available online. Dr. Mishra gave LIVE examples from his experiences in solving practical problems with the help of Mind maps and Design thinking. The session closed with an activity on Design thinking where participants were put into Breakout Rooms and Design a Product for a problem.

Free COVID-19 Vaccination camp for Students and Staff of Sahyadri

Sahyadri College in collaboration with Govt. of Karnataka, District Health & Family Welfare Department, DK Dist. National Service Scheme, Sahyadri Unit & Youth Red Cross Sahyadri College Wing, will be organizing Free COVID-19 Vaccination camp for students and staff in Sahyadri Campus on Tuesday, 29th June,2021 from 10am. The event will be inaugurated by Dr. Y Bharath Shetty, MLA, Mangalore North in the presence of Dr. Kishore Kumar DHO, DK district and Mr. Shantharam Shetty Chairman, Indian Red Cross DK District. More than 1000 students will be getting their first Dose of vaccination tomorrow.
