Mr. Shashidhar Hegde, Ex-Mayor visits Sahyadri Sahyadri is graced by the visit of Mr. Shashidhar Hegde, Ex-Mayor of Mangalore. He was accompanied by three leading business proprietors owning food outlets in and around Mangalore namely; Mr. M. Ganesh Shetty, Mr. Pradhyumna Rao and Mr. Ramananda Bhandary.

The guests interacted with the chairman who accompanied them around the campus. They visited the departmental innovation centres and the various startups and industries of Sahyadri and had deep admiration for its student-centric learning environment.

Mr. Abijeeth of GASSOL Solutions Private Limited visits Sahyadri Mr. Abijeeth of GASSOL Solutions Private Limited visited Sahyadri Campus. He interacted with the chairman and discussed about the various LPG/CNG related innovations and solutions they are working on, for improving the storage and combustion. The overall effort of GASSOL is towards taking up green initiative to have lesser impact on environment.

Mr. Abijeeth had an interaction with CALIPER and RDL for developing few products which would help them in executing their vision. He showed interest for collaboration with our students and faculties to provide solutions to societal problems.

GASSOL Solutions Private Limited was incorporated in July 2016. GASSOL began its celebrated journey in the year 1987 as a distributor for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) under the name ‘Padmashree Agencies’. They design and install the most reliable and compliant gas installations which helps reduce carbon emissions.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes Career Awareness Programme Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes Career Awareness Programme The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with Konkan Railway Academy, organized a career awareness programme “Skilling Engineers for Professional Success”. Mr. Surya Shekar and Mr Shridhara Avabhrath of Konkan Railway Academy were present. Mr. Surya Shekar gave an overview of Konkan Railways. In his session, Mr. Shridhara spoke extensively on the opportunities at Konkan Railways. The speakers called on students to start their own enterprise as railway contractors. The department explored possible opportunities for internships.

Campus Recruitment Drive- QSpiders

Campus Recruitment Drive- QSpiders QSpiders conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. Mr. Sharath Kumar-Manager and Mr. Shanmukh were at the campus to facilitate the process.

A total of 42 students from DK and Udupi districts participated in the drive, out of which 9 students were selected.

Director of DXC Technology delivers Guest Talk ” for Faculty Director of DXC Technology delivers Guest Talk Mr. Manoj K.P., Director, DXC Technology addressed first year MBA students on the topic “Digital Disruption - Staying Relevant”. He started his session by educating the students on "Digital" which means not just hardware part of it but way of doing things. In order to stay relevant in the digital age he gave inputs on five dimensions of digital sustainability:
• Agility -Rapid Decision Making & Execution,
• Connectivity - Consistent Collaboration,
• Discipline & Focus - Clarity on Desired Outcome,
• Empowerment & Alignment - Empowered to make decisions, and
• Openness & Transparency - Ethical practices.
Mr. Manoj spoke about the evolution from industrial age to digital age and he enlightened students on how to become digitally sustainable leaders by having the required skill sets. He also addressed the faculty members of various departments and briefed them about the role of a teacher in preparing students for the fast changing digital world.

Mr. Manoj has agreed to mentor a couple of faculty members and students on specific topics of Management studies.

Outgoing Students of Computer Science & Engineering bid farewell Outgoing Students of Computer Science & Engineering bid farewell The valedictory function for CLOUDS (Computer Legends of the Unified Department @ Sahyadri) - an association of students and faculty members of the department of Computer Science & Engineering and a farewell for the outgoing UG and PG students of 2019 batch was held in the campus. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean Examination was the Guest of Honour. Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering gave the presidential address.

On this dual occasion, annual report of the club activities was presented by Krithesh Bhandary, Vice President - CLOUDS. Awards were distributed to the class toppers and subject toppers of the Odd semester. The outgoing students and faculty members shared their experiences at Sahyadri. Ms. Pooja N.S., Staff Coordinator and Ms. Souravi, General Secretary, were also present. Cultural events were organized both by students and staff and the event was brought to successful conclusion.

Introduction of Mentor:

Vijay C.P. is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. He has 7 years of teaching experience. He has completed his M.Tech from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management with specialization in Computer Science and Engineering, and B.E from B.G.S.I.T B.G. Nagar, Mandya. His areas of interest are Cyber Security and Machine Learning. He is author of various research articles published in reputed journals. He is currently pursuing Ph.D. in VTU under the guidance of Dr. Pushpalatha, Associate Professor of Computer Science & Engineering.

Mentees’ Details:
• Sampreetha is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from DPS MRPL, and PUC from Sharadha PU College, Mangaluru. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and has completed junior exam with distinction. Her hobbies are playing basketball, carom and badminton. She aspires to do higher studies abroad.
• Sushmitha N. is from Bellary. She pursued her high school from St. Joseph Girls’ High School and PUC from Nalanda PU College, Bellary. She has participated in cyborg-break event held at IIT Roorke and in state level chess championship. Her aim is to pursue higher studies abroad.
• Prayag Raj Singh Pitwat is from Rajasthan. He pursued his high school from Bearys’ Public School, and PUC from St Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include travelling, swimming, watching movies, listening to music, reading technical articles, participating in various activities, playing football, cricket, and badminton. He secured 7th position overall in SAE Aero Design West 2018 (California), first place in Hackathon conducted by SOSC, first place in aero modeling event held at NITC. He has attended various workshops, seminars and hands-on sessions. He conducted workshop in LBS College Kasaragod. His aspiration is to become an entrepreneur.
• Tushar M. Shetty is from Puttur. He pursued his high school from Indraprastha Vidyalaya, Puttur and PUC from Sri Ramakunjeshwara PU College. He has participated in events conducted at IIT Gandhinagar. He secured first place in the event named JUNKYARD WARS conducted by IIT Mandi. He volunteered in events conducted in college such as SSTH and Kindle. He wants to be places in a core company.
• Subramanya R. is from Madikeri. He pursued his high achool from St. Michaels High School, Madikeri and PUC from Ambika PU College, Puttur. He participated in state and national level Abacus competition and also in Tech Next Event organised by IIT Varanasi. His aspiration is to join a reputed IT company
• Pavan is from Bantwal. He pursued his high school from S.V.S English School, Bantwal and PUC from Sharada PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing badminton & chess, painting and gaming. He was a part of Scouts and Guides. He has been awarded with Rajyapuraskar for his achievement in Scouts. His goal is to achieve something and contribute to the society.
• Abdul Basith Ali M.K. is from Kasaragod. He pursued his high school from Chinmaya vidyalya Payyanur and PUC from Christ CMI Public School, Payyanur. His aspiration is to become a successful human being in life.
• Bhavin Bopanna is from Virajpet. He pursued his high school from St Anne’s Composite High School, Virajpet and PUC from Vidyanikethan PU College, GoniKoppal. His hobbies are playing hockey and listening to music. His team won runner-up prize in Taluk Level Hockey Tournament. His aspiration is to become game/graphic designer.
• Kavya K. Kamath is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from St. Agnes School and PUC from St. Agnes PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are singing, acting, and playing guitar. She secured 22nd rank in National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Examination. She participated in “Cyborg” event held at IIT Roorkee. Her aspiration is to become a software developer.

Upcoming Event

Sahyadri is organizing Techvison-2019 an annual flagship project exhibition event. The objective of the event is to show case the talent of the students in all the four years by way of projects.

The management annually earmarks Rs 20 lakhs for sponsoring of these projects under Sahyadri Projects Support Scheme (SPSS). SPSS is an initiative to drive projects based learning amongst the students. The theme for Techvision 2019 is ELEVATE 50. Over the years Techvision has evolved to come to a stage where students are challenged to develop PRODUCT BASED STARTUPs and not just scientific projects. As such, in Techvision 2019 there will be two technical rounds followed by one business round.
