Presentation by mathematics faculty members as part of departmental activity

The faculty members of the department of mathematics as a part of their departmental activity presented topics discussed by invited speakers at a conference on `Mathematics and its Applications’ at Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology, Chikmagalur in which they had participated recently. Prof. Suchetha, presented the topic ‘Rheodynamic lubrications of an externally pressurised thrust bearing using yield-stress fluids, generalized inverses and associated partialorde in different algebraic structures and primary and secondary instabilities in nano liquids .’ Prof. Ayesha presented `Solving simple puzzles or complex problems and a survey of algorithmic techniques’ while Prof. Savitha presented the topic on `Buoyancy induced flow over axisymmetric bodies and effect of different thermal boundary conditions.’

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2016 Phase I Conducted at Various Colleges

Sri Ramakrishna College, Mangalore
Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Phase 1 and Phase 2 were successfully conducted in Sri Ramakrishna College, Mangalore. 120 students of the final year B Com and BBM participated in the competitions. Prof Gayathri Shetty along with four student volunteers spearheaded the initiative. The event began with a short formal program in the presence of faculty coordinator Ms Soumya of Sri Ramakrishna College. The quiz began with Phase 1 – MCQ round (elimination) whereby 6 teams were shortlisted. The teams competed with each other for the Phase 2 quiz round and 4 ultimate winners were chosen.

St. Agnes Degree College, Mangalore
120 teams comprising 360 final year students from both B.Com & BBM participated in the written quiz round in Phase-I at St. Agnes Degree College, Mangalore. Prof. Karthik Kudroli, shared the background of conducting this mega event and also disseminated the Rules & Regulations of the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz. Prof. Vishal Samartha gave a glimpse of Sahyadri and Prof. Sushma V, highlighted the importance of PGCET and stimulated the students to attend the PGCET training that would be held at Sahyadri in June 2016. Prof. Devi Prabha Alva, HOD of the Commerce department, St. Agnes Degree College, extended her wholehearted support for the smooth conduct of the programme. She urged the students to participate in the upcoming event at Sahyadri - "Panel Discussion on Union Budget 2016-17” highlighting that a responsible citizen & moreover commerce students in particular, should have a thorough knowledge on the budget. She appreciated Sahyadri for organizing such events that focus on the development of youth and confirmed her continued support in the forthcoming events to be organised at Sahyadri.
