Technical talk for Civil Engineering students

Dept. of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE, organized a Technical Talk on “Application of Drones in Civil Engineering” which was facilitated by Mr. Midhun Jyothis P C, Founder & CEO, Flotanomers R & D Pvt Ltd. During his talk, he briefed about FLOTANOMERS and the various job opportunities available for Civil engineering graduates in the field of Land Surveying, GIS application, Agriculture Survey, Aerial Survey etc. He stressed on the application of Drone survey for health monitoring, Boundary mapping of an area, Land use mapping of an urban area, Suitable road way mapping using Aerial photographs and so on. He motivated students to explore the field of Aerial Survey using Drones.

Sahyadri Whiz Quiz Prelims at Govinda Pai Memorial College, Manjeshwar

A total of 50 students in teams of 3 each, participated in the Prelims of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz that was held at Govinda Pai Memorial College, Manjeshwar. Twenty four students qualified for the Quiz Round after Written Test and finally twelve students have gained entry into the Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 which would be held in Sahyadri Campus on March 8th 2019.

Final year MBA students along with Dr. Sharan Shetty, Prof. Padmanabha B and Prof. Akshatha P of Dept. of Business Administration facilitated the Quiz.

Workshop on Big Data Analytics using Hadoop

A workshop on "Big Data Analytics using Hadoop" was conducted by the Dept. of Information Science and Engineering in association with STAISE, ISTE and IEI. The resource person of the workshop was Prof. Manjunath Mulimani, Research Scholar, NITK Surathkal. He gave an introduction to Big Data Analytics and conducted hands-on session on “MapReduce Programming for Big Data Analytics using Python”. He also discussed the topics such as MapReduce and Data Transformation, MapReduce Programming Model, Workflow of MapReduce, Running MapReduce Job and Hadoop versions.

Mentor Details:
Dr. Rajesha S. Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineer, Dean- Academics, pursued his Ph.D. from IIT, Roorkee, Uttarakhand; M.Tech in Maintenance Engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore and B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from PES College of Engineering, Mandya. He has served as the Professor & Head, Dean (R&D) and Institute level NBA-OBE Implementation Coordinator. He was also the Head of the Department (ME) at JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Rajesha has to his credit 18 journal publication, 23 conference publications and three patents.

• M Rajendra Prasad is from Udupi. He pursued his SSLC from Madhava Kripa Higher Primary English Medium School and PUC from MGM P U College, Udupi. His hobbies are playing table tennis & Badminton. He aspires to pursue his M. Tech in Mechine Design and work in Bosch.
• Prajwal Kawari is from Kumta. He pursued his SSLC from Nirmal Convent, Kumta and PUC from Jnana Sudha PU College, Karkala. His hobby is playing Volley ball. He participated in events at SRM University. He aspires to become a dedicated Engineer.
• Thayyib Salahuddin is from Mangaluru. He pursued his SSLC from Falah English Medium School K.C Road and PUC from St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are Photography, Reading & Travelling. He aspires to be placed in a reputed core company.
• Namith V Naik is from Mangaluru. He pursued his SSLC from B R M P High School Bantwal and PUC from Sharadha PU College. His hobbies are Watching Movies and reading novels. He participated in Technical Fests at IIT Punjab & NIT Bhopal and won 2nd place in events like Power Craft & Robo Wars. He aspires to be a Design Engineer.
• Abhijeet B is from Andhra Pradesh. He pursued his SSLC from Amritha Vidyalaya and PUC from Vikas PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing games and listening to music. He was a runner up in District level Under-14 badminton championship. He participated in Technical fest at NIT Sikkim and won 1st place in the Line Following Bot event. He aspires to become an IAS Officer.
• Ashish Kumar is from Mangaluru. He pursued his SSLC from Govt High School, Kote, Surinje and PUC from Gokarnatheshwara PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are Drawing, Reading book and Outdoor games. He is a National Level Karate Player, also obtained NCC B Grade (CPL Grade). He participated in the event at NIT Jamshedpur. He aspires to be an Entrepreneur.
• Gururaj is from Mangaluru. He pursued SSLC from Canara High School Urwa and PUC from Canara College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing Cricket and listening to music. He aspires to work in an automobile company.
