Indian Coast Guard (ICG) visits Sahyadri

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) visits Sahyadri Commandant Kaustubh Mulye and his team of assistant commandants viz. Dhaneswaran, Siddharth and Rahul Sharma visited Sahyadri to give an orientation talk on the opportunities in Indian Coast Guard and recruitment process. Several students and faculties attended the talk. The team met and interacted with all the in-house industries and expressed their views and appreciation in the institution’s effort in putting ideas and skills into real time projects.

ICG is the fourth biggest in the world and has 14 district headquarters and 5 regional headquarters. Mangalore is the third headquarter after Porbandar and Mumbai. ICG carries out operations on air, land and sea during both peace and war times. They maintain the water boundary of 200 nautical miles around the Indian coast. Their functions include Disaster and pollution management, anti-piracy and smuggling prevention, protection of maritime environment and also providing aid to disaster victims.

Officer from IIM Indore visits the MBA Department Mr. K V Satyanathan Nambiar, Officer from IIM Indore visited the Dept. of Business Administration-MBA and had a discussion with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA.

In September 2018, a total of 22 students from the MBA department took part in a Management Fest organized at IIM Indore. On viewing the registration list and learning that students from Mangaluru are participating in the Management Fest, Mr. Satyanathan was overwhelmed and made sure our students get the best hospitality which further strengthened the bond between IIM Indore and Sahyadri. On his personal visit to Mangaluru this time along with his spouse, he made it a point to visit Sahyadri as he had heard of our institution from our students. He was taken around the campus, made to view the in-house start-ups and industries and also the various student-centric initiatives. He was amazed to see what Sahyadri has to offer for its students and also the community and appreciated the Management, Staff and students.

Mr. Nambiar has further assured to get us connected to the MDP coordinator of IIM Indore for customized programmes on upskilling the MBA faculty.

Career guidance talk for Civil Engineering Students A career guidance talk was organized for the pre-final year students on What? Why? and How? GATE. Mr. Someshwar Rao Kola, Faculty, Academy in Pursuit of Engineering Excellence (APEX) emphasized on the importance of attempting GATE exams. He also stated that it is a benchmarking criterion in Private Sector companies and employment in Public Sector Units (PSUs).

Mr. Someshwar Rao Kola educated the students on how to crack GATE facilities provided by APEX and also the exam pattern.

Student Counsellor invited as resource person for Persona-19

Student Counsellor invited as resource person for Persona-19 Mr Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor was invited by St. Agnes (Autonomous) College as a resource person for ‘Persona 19’, the Annual Inter-collegiate Seminar on Personality Development for undergraduate students. He conducted a session on “Self Awareness”, for the students.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Silver Peak Global (SPG) Silver Peak Global (SPG) visited Sahyadri to conduct an Exclusive Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. A three member team comprising of Mr. Sanju Lokesh, VP - Operations, Mr. Tej Kumar, Director - Operations and Mr. Vinay Nanjappa, Director were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 125 students attended the drive. The results are awaited.

Prof. Sudheer Shetty is currently working as Dean Examinations, and Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. He completed his B.E. from Mangalore University and M.Tech. from VTU, Belagavi. Currently, he is pursuing Ph.D. from VTU, Belagavi. Along with academics, his overall teaching experience is 18.5 years which includes 4 years of research and 8 years of administrative experience. Prior to joining Sahyadri, Prof. Sudheer Shetty worked as Head of the Department of Computer Science & Enginering (CSE) at KVG College of Engineering, Sullia. His areas of expertise include Cloud Computing, System programming, Operations Research and Algorithms.

Following are his achievements:
• Nominated as Member of Board of Studies (BoS) in Computer Science (UG) program of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru for the period from 2017-2020.
• Served as Member of Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) of VTU. As a member of LIC he is involved in inspecting various engineering colleges for the purpose of continuation or granting of the courses during the academic years 2013-14 and 2015-16.
• Served as Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) for the academic years from 2011-12 to 2017-18.

Introduction of Mentees:
• Abhishek Ranjan hails from Bihar. He pursued his high school from DAV Public School, Lakhisarai, Bihar and PUC from DAV Public School, Bokaro, Jharkhand. He is a good dancer, writes poems and solves mathematical puzzles during his free time. He aspires to join Indian Army.
• Arkadeep Roy is from West Bengal. He pursued his high school and PUC from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Panambur. His hobbies include playing games, reading books, listening to music. He wants to go for higher studies and do research (Ph.D.) in the field of Aeronautics in collaboration with Computer Science.
• Gopika C. is from Kasaragod. She pursued her high school and PUC from Chattanchal Higher Secondary School, Chattanchal. Her hobbies are reading books and listening to music. She aspires to become a successful engineer and make her parents proud.
• Manali K.A. is from Kodagu. She pursued her high school from Alva’s High School, Moodabidri and PUC from Vivekananda PU College, Puttur. Her hobbies include singing and dancing and has completed junior exams in both singing and dancing. She won several prizes at the VTU cultural fest. She participated in the NIT Bhopal fest and won 1st place in Water Propulsion event. She also participated in event at IIT Punjab and won 2nd place. She aspires to become a successful engineer and wants to help the agriculturists in developing good software to increase the productivity.
• Prinston Neil Rodrigues is from Belthangady. He pursued his high school from St. Philomena High School, Puttur and PUC from St. Philomena PU College, Puttur. His hobbies include playing guitar and travelling to various places across India. He participated at NIT Calicut and won 1st place in Robo Soccer and 2nd place in Death Race events. He wants to start a software company in some rural place.
• Satish R. Havani is from Belagavi. He pursued his high school from KRCES English Medium School, Bailahongal, Belagavi and did his PUC from Alva’s PU College, Moodabidri. His hobbies include playing games, puzzle solving, reading novels and bike-riding. He participated at NIT Goa and won 3rd place in Robo Race event. He aspires to join ISRO and hopes to start his own startup in due course of time.
• Sidharth S. Kadri is from Kasaragod. He pursued his high school from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kasaragod and did his PUC from BARHSS, Bovikkana, Kasaragod. His hobbies include playing football, listening to music and travelling. He aspires to become a police commissioner.
• Maryam Shahid Rahiman is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from Beary’s Public School, Mangaluru and PUC from St. Agnes PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies include reading books, watching movies. She wants to become a successful engineer and join Google.

Kreatio is visiting Sahyadri to conduct a two day pool campus recruitment drive for engineering students of all branches of B.E/ B.Tech 2019 outgoing batch. Pre-placement talk will be held in the Ground floor Seminar hall at 9.00 AM. All are cordially invited for the same. Kreatio is a boutique software company based out of Bangalore, India. They provide serviced software platforms to digital publishers. They have clients in every continent on the globe, excluding Antartica.
