Dr. Raghunandan, District Surgeon, McGann Hospital, visited Sahyadri Sahyadri is graced by the visit of Dr. Raghunandan, a renowned District Surgeon from McGann Hospital, Shimoga. McGann Hospital is government run hospital and part of the Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences. It is named after a famous surgeon from the UK named T.G. McGann. As a district surgeon, Dr. Raghunandan’s duties involve providing guidance to officers and health institution staff under the District Medical and Health Office; and liaising with other district as well as higher authorities in health aspects.

Visitors to Sahyadri have always come from different fields. Sahyadri has hosted educationists, businessmen, politicians and also doctors in the past. And as is customary the guests have been received at the campus with warmth and cordiality.

Dr. Raghunandan having received a similar welcome had a fruitful interaction with the chairman and management. The chairman accompanied Dr. Raghunandan around the campus and talked to him about the campus’ biggest achievements and academic accomplishments.

Dr. Raghunandan visited various departments, labs, innovation centres and start-ups. He had deep admiration for the student-centric initiatives undertaken by the college. Further, he was impressed with the robust infrastructure and said it is praiseworthy. He lauded the chairman for the unique education system established at Sahyadri.

IoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri

IoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri IoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri IOT Challenge 2019, a Workshop organised by the Department of Information Science and Engineering continued through Sunday with furthermore hands-on sessions on projects related to IoT.

The Hackathon session conducted has qualified the participants for the prelims of ‘Radiance’ IIT Bombay which will be conducted from 16-17 March, 2019. Five teams of 20 participants were selected for IIT Bombay finals out of which 8 are from Sahyadri.

The teams comprised of participants from Sahyadri, NITK – Surathkal, Srinivas College – Valachil, PESITM - Shimoga, Dayanand Sagar University and Presidency University of Bangalore.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Scope T&M Private Limited

Scope T&M Private Limited
SCOPE T&M Private Limited visited Sahyadri to conduct Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2019 outgoing batch of engineering students from the Electronics & Communication branch. A total of 38 students participated in the drive. The results are awaited.

Introduction of Mentor:
Mr. Pavan Kumar Hegde is currently working as Assistant Professor in the department of Business Administration. He has a total of 5.5 years of industry and teaching experience. Having completed BE in Electronics & Communication stream from NMAMIT, Nitte, he then completed his MBA in Finance in the year 2014, from SDM College affiliated to Mangalore University, Mangaluru. He took up a career in finance, as he was more inclined towards and passionate about the subject.

Introduction of Mentees:
• Shrikantha S. is a native of Perla, Kasargod. He completed his graduation from Vivekananda Degree College, Puttur. Fishkeeping is his favourite hobby. He participated in the NITK Fest and won 1st place. He is keen on implementing certain business ideas during his MBA stint. He aspires to be a successful entrepreneur and support his family in every way possible.
• Hanisha D’Souza is from Bajpe, Mangaluru. She completed her graduation at St. Agnes College. Her hobbies include reading and dancing. She aspires to be an entrepreneur.
• Pawan Kumar S. is from Mangaluru. He completed degree from Govindadasa Degree College, Surathkal. His hobbies are dramatics and cricket. He participated in DKCA Cricket tournaments. He is a 2-times recipient of national award in 2017-18 in the field of cricket. He aspires to join a reputed corporate company and thereby reach the zenith in the domain of marketing.
• Shanthi A. hails from Tamilnadu. She has completed her graduation from St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru. Drawing is her favourite hobby and pastime. She participated in the NITK Fest and won first place in the event “Bizlytics”. She aspires to take up a career in the finance sector.
• S. Salavuddeen is from Uppinangady. He completed his graduation from Government First Grade College (GFGC), Uppinandady. His hobby is watching movies. He participated in the NITK FEST and has won 2nd place. He aspires to work in the finance sector of a reputed company.
• Sanketh hails from Kundapur. He pursued his degree at Bhandarkar’s Arts & Science College, Kundapura. His favourite hobby is reading. He aspires to work in the banking sector at the managerial level.
• Shreenidhi D. hails from Chickmagalur. He pursued his degree from Government First Grade College (GFGC), Punjalkatte. His hobbies are reading and playing cricket. He mainly aspires to take up civil services by clearing the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) exam. In the interim he pursues MBA in finance and plans to work in a reputed bank or a firm.
• Rahul Vij is from Trivandrum, Kerala. He completed his graduation in Bachelor of Vocation (BVoC) at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. BVoc Course addresses the critical knowledge and skill-sets required to make the candidate “industry ready” and shape “young-entrepreneurs”. His hobbies are driving and playing cricket. He has completed JAVA Certification course. He aspires to fit into a marketing job in a reputed company.

Introduction of Mentor:

Mr. Sunil Kumar Rai is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. He has 8.5 years of teaching experience in Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management along with 2 years of research experience. He has completed his B.E. from KVGCE, Sullia and M.Tech (after clearing GATE exam) from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore. Presently he is pursuing his Ph.D in "Effect of Piezo Patches on Vibration, Buckling and Flutter Behavior of Shell Panel with Cutouts subjected to Non Uniform Loading Condition" under the guidance of Dr. Premanand Shenoy Professor & Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Dr. Rajanna, Professor, BMSCE Bangalore. He has mentored many student projects which has received funding of Rs. 3 Lakhs from NAIN and Rs. 60,000/- from NIDHI PRAYAS. His areas of interest are Structural Analysis, Composite & Smart Materials, Concrete Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, Plates and Shells.

Mentee Details
• Lubna Rasool is from Kashmir. She completed 10th standard at St. Pauls International Academy, and 12th Grade at Girls Higher Secondary located at Kashmir. Her hobbies include reading novels, watching movies. She aspires to be a civil engineer in environmental engineering field.
• Arpitha Y. Pujar is from Koppal. She completed her 10th standard from SFS High School Koppal and PUC from SMPU, Dharwad. Her hobbies are reading books and singing. She aspires to become a successful civil engineer in environmental field.
• Megha is from Mangaluru. She did her 10th standard from St. Agnes High School, and PUC from St. Agnes PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are dancing and cooking. She aspires to become a successful environmental engineer and serve the society.
• Deekshith V.C. is from Mangaluru. He did his 10th standard at St. Aloysius High School, and PUC from Mahesh PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing cricket, volleyball, badminton and sketching. He aspires to become a structural engineer.
• Vignesh S. Shetty is from Karkala. He did his 10th standard at Shrimudh Bhuvanendra High School, and PUC from Jnaana Sudha PU College, Karkala. His hobbies are drawing, listening to music and playing guitar. He aspires to become an IAS officer and serve the society.
• Ruwais Ali Perla is from Kasargod. He did is 10th standard at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kasargod and PUC at Yenepoya PU college, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing football and travelling. He aspires to become a structural engineer.
• Abdul Rahiman Faiz U.K. is from Uppala, Kasargod. He did his 10th standard at Yenepoya High School and PUC from Mahesh PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include playing cricket, badminton, and football. He aspires to get into the field of construction and infrastructure.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri

Focus Academy for Career Enhancement (FACE) is visiting Sahyadri to conduct the Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2018 passed out batch as well as outgoing engineering students of 2019 batch from all branches.

Started in December 2008 as an entrepreneurial venture based out of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu by two IIM graduates, they are in the business of employability skills development, primarily focusing on engineering and management studies. Over the past 9 years, they have grown to 600+ associates with offices across the country and have trained more than 16,00,000 students across 2000+ institutions and organizations. Their clients include most of the top ranked engineering colleges across India including 20 out of 23 IITs.
