World Cancer Awareness Day - Sahyadri family Stands with the Cancer Survivors In commemoration of World Cancer Awareness Day, Sahyadri family expressed their solidarity with the cancer survivors by wearing the symbolic lavender ribbon which represents all cancer awareness.
February 4th is observed as World Cancer Awareness Day all over the world.

Sahyadri celebrates IETE Students day Sahyadri celebrates IETE Students day The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) celebrated IETE Students’ Day. February 1st is observed every year as IETE Students’ Day as per IETE guidelines. The event was celebrated with zeal and zest at Sahyadri.

Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading professional society devoted to the advancement of science in electronics & communication, information technology, computer science and other disciplines. On 10th November 2018, under the guidance of Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal the IETE Students’ Forum and PAC was established in Sahyadri.

The day began with a series of competitions and activities organized by the IFS committee and AENCES office bearers, the various activities held were:
1. Tech Tantra
2. Tech Swot (circuit rig up)
3. Tech Quiz
4. Pick Act and Speak
5. Technical Presentation by Team Challengers

The day's formal function was graced by Prof. S.S Balakrishna, Vice Principal, Mr. Raghavendra Shetty, CEO, RDL Technologies, Dr. Ashwath Rao, HoD of Electronics & Communication and Mrs. Megha N, ISF Coordinator. The presidential address was delivered by the Vice Principal who was delighted to see the ISF, Sahyadri Wing flourish and grow. He also encouraged the students to take an active part in all the events held at the college. The guest of honor Mr. Raghavendra Shetty spoke vividly about connecting industries to the students. Dr. Ashwath Rao shared his wisdom and spoke about the impact of disruptive, groundbreaking innovations and technologies. All the students from the department of ECE participated in the various events with much enthusiasm.

Students participate in Startup Dailogue Mr. Akarsh Shetty of 3rd Year Electronics and Communication Engineering and Ms. Akshata R.N of 2nd Year Information Science and Engineering from DTlabz and DTiLabz Private Limited participate in Startup Dialogue, Spirit of Entrepreneurship in SANDBOX startup , Hubballi.

Startup Dialouge intends to create a platform for all the stakeholders of Indian Startup Echosystem to come together and celebrate the spirit of Enterpreneurship. Speakers were Dr. Gururaj Deshpande, President & Chairman, Sparta Group LLC, who is also Chairman of Tejas Networks and Deshpande Foundation, Mr. Ramanan Ramanathan, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission and last but not least Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Founder & Former Chairman, Infosys and many more dignitaries.

Mr. Akarsh and Ms. Akshata got an opportunity to interact with Ramanan Ramanathan. They attended the Power talk “Mantra for Scaling” by T.N. Hari, Head, Human Resources, BigBasket; and also “Lean Starup” Workshop by Anand K.V., Ex. Senior Vice President, Flipcart. Students had a great learning experience in Living Laboratory for Entrepreneurs.

Engineering Students attend two days State level NSS Seminar at Hiruyadka, Udupi Sowmya K. and Sharath Kumar K. from Civil Engineering Department, and Ankitha from Electronics and Communication Department along with Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., NSS Programme Officer, attended two days State Level NSS Seminar on “Ideas of Dr B.R. Ambedkar” at Government First Grade College Hiriyadka, Udupi.

The seminar was jointly organized by Karnataka State National Service Scheme Cell, Department of Youth Welfare & Sports, and Mangalore University NSS Unit. The two days seminar highlighted various issues like thoughts of Dr. Ambedkar on political system, thoughts and intent of constitution and challenges in equity.

Faculty publishes a book on Fundamentals of Material Science

A book on Fundamentals of Material Science authored by Dr. Savitha M. B. HoD, Department of Chemistry is published. The book presents the subject with the aim of providing clear and sufficient understanding of basics of engineering materials and their properties, fundamentals of material science, electrical & optical properties of materials, thermal & magnetic properties of materials and mechanical properties of materials.

Furthermore, the book also aims to create awareness about the importance of material science in the field of Nano Science and Nano technology. The book comes in handy for UG and PG Science students.

Faculty invited for Expert talk on Big Data Analytics

Mr. Manjunath Mulimani faculty of Computer Science & Engineering is invited as resource person to the Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Data Analytics, organized by BNM Institute of Technology, Bengaluru.

Mr. Mulamani delivered a talk on “Big Data Analytics” and conducted hands-on session on “MapReduce Programming for Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning Techniques using Python”. The topics covered were Bigdata Analytics, Introduction to Data Pipelines, MapReduce and Data Transformation, MapReduce Programming Model, Running MapReduce Job, locally, Running MapReduce Job on Hadoop Cluster, Managing the complexity of MapReduce Program, Hands-on session on the MapReduce programming, Model, Machine learning, Data Preparation, Imbalance Data, Feature Extraction, Classification, Machine Learning for Large Datasets.

Shikha Rai A. has a teaching experience of 2 years. She is presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. She pursued B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru and M.Tech in Digital Electronics & Communication System from St Joseph’s Engineering College, Mangaluru.
Introduction of Mentees:
• Fayaz Mohammed Aman is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school in B.G.S.E.C High School, Kavoor and PUC in Vikas PU College, Mangaluru. He possesses good communication skills. His interests lie in gardening and cooking. He has participated in Science Olympiad. He aspires to work in a core MNC.
• Sheetal Laxman Pavaskar is from Kumta, Uttara Kannada. She pursued her high school in Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School, Siddapur and PUC in Hanumantha Benna PU College, Kumta. She is a continuous learner and very dedicated. She aspires to be a successful engineer.
• V.H. Darshan is from Hosad, Honnavar. He pursued his high school in Sharavathi High School, Hosad and PUC in SDM PU College, Honnavar. He is a self and a quick learner and is even good at sports. He has participated in drawing and project competitions. He aspires to become a scientist and cosmologist.
• Prajna S.S. is from Puttur. She pursued her high school in Mount Zion High School, Subramanya and PUC in SS PU College, Subramanya. She is a good athlete and has participated in Relay competitions. She also has interest in dancing and singing. She aspires to become a scientist.
• Mohammed Ishan Bava is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school in Kanachur High School, Mangaluru and PUC in Milagres PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include reading novels and playing football. He is good at sports. He possesses good communication skills and aspires to be an ideal politician.
• Yashasvi is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school in St Ann’s High School, Mangaluru and PUC in St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. She is a self and a quick learner and has good communication skills. She aspires to become an entrepreneur.

Introduction of Mentor:
Vikas G. is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has 5 years of teaching experience. He has obtained his B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Vidya Vikas Institute of Engineering & Technology (VVIET), Mysuru and M.Tech in Product Design and Manufacturing from National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru. Presently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. on Natural Fiber Reinforced Composite Materials at St. Joseph’s Engineering College - RC (VTU).

Introduction of Mentee:
• N. Dhanush is from Mangaluru. He has completed his schooling from Canara Main and PUC from Mahesh PU College. He is interested in sports like Kabaddi, Cricket and Carom. He aspires to get into a supercar industry.
• Shubham P. is from Karwar. He has completed his schooling from Balmandir High School, Karwar and PUC from St. Joseph’s P.U College, Karwar. He is interested in Cricket and drawing. He aspires to be a Cricketer.
• Purushotham is from Kerala. He has completed both of his schooling and PUC from Chinmaya Vidyalaya. He is interested in playing table tennis, volley ball, and in gymnastics. He has also won the Gold Medal in Table Tennis during his school days. His aspiration is to serve our Nation by joining Indian Army.
• Ajeya Krishna K. is from Bantwala. He has completed his schooling from Jain High School, Moodbidri and PUC from Ambika PU College, Puttur. He is interested in sports like Kabbadi, Cricket. He has a hobby of collecting coins and stamps. His aspiration is to work in a company like Bosch or L&T and after gaining some experience he has a dream of starting up his own company to provide job opportunities for the needy.
• Yashas is from Mangaluru. He has completed his schooling from Canara High School and PUC from Canara PU College. He has a dream of gaining knowledge by getting into the depth of mechanical engineering and transforming it into long term goals.
• Kiran K. is from Puttur. He has completed his schooling from Sarvodaya High School and PUC from Sri. Ramakunjeshwara PU College, Ramakunja. He is interested in playing sports like Cricket and Kabaddi. He wishes to become a successful engineer and has a dream of starting his own company to develop innovative machines or products relevant to the field of agriculture.
• Dhanush Acharya is from Puttur. He has completed his schooling from Shree Ramakrishna High School and PU from Vivekananda PU College. His hobbies are mobile photography (Nature), editography, circuit making (DIY project), listening to music. His aspiration is to work in the field of robotics and contribute innovative solutions to the society.

Mrs. Shwetha
is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. She obtained her B.E. degree from Srinivas Institute of Technology and M.Tech. degree from Sahyadri college of Engineering and Management. She has 2 years of teaching experience. IoT is her area of interest. She also has MBA degree from Sikkhim Manipal University.

Introduction of Mentees:
• Shivaprasad hails from bantwal. He pursued his high school in Govt. High School, Vamadapadav and PUC from S.V.S. College, Bantwal. His hobbies are photography and coins collection. His favourite sport is Kabaddi. He aspires to get into a MNC that offers a decent package.
• Swathishree is from Shibaje, Dharmasthala. She pursued her high school in St. John’s English Medium High School and PUC in Vivekananda PU College. She loves listening to songs and dancing to semi classical songs. Some of her achievements include 3rd place in semi classical dance form, 1st place in 200 mtrs race and 3rd place in Kabaddi. Her aspiration is to be a software engineer placed in a good company with good package.
• Jasmi hailing from Madekeri, has pursued her high school in St. Michael‘s High School, Madikeri and PUC in St. Michael‘s Composite PU College, Madikeri. She spends most of her leisure time in sketching, singing and dancing. A few of her noteworthy achievements are Prathiba Puraskar, Drawing Championship at District Level and Dancing Championship at both Taluk and District levels. Her aspiration is to get placed in a reputed company with a very good package.
• Misbah Fathima hails from Dharwad. She pursued her high school from Cambridge School, Mangaluru and PUC in Pana PU College. Her hobbies include wealth out of waste, artificial flower making, drawing, painting, origami making and artificial jewelry. She has beautiful handwriting. Her achievements include 3rd place in inter school competition for origami and 1st place for collage. She aspires to be a good software engineer.
• Mohammed Hisham Jaleel is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from in Milagres High School and PUC in St. Aloysius PU College. His hobby is swimming. He is a taluk level football player. His aspiration is to be placed in a high package company.
• Maruthi is from Bagalkot. He did his schooling in Govt. High School Angaragund, Bykampady and PUC from M.D.S. PU College. Drawing and watching TV are his hobbies. He topped his school in the Std. 10th Board Exams. His aspiration is to get into any company that offers high package.
• Mangala is the resident of Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from St. Gerosa High School and PUC from Boscoss PU College. Content writing, drawing and dancing is what she does during her leisure. She has been awarded 9th rank in NMMS Aptitude Test at State level. She aspires to be a good software engineer and lead a happy and contented life.
