71st Anniversary of the Republic Day Celebrated at Sahyadri

The 71st Anniversary of the Republic Day was celebrated in the campus with hoisting the national flag by the Chief Guest – Ms. Meenaz Shariff, Director of Cascades Data Solutions India Pvt Ltd and Cirrus Labs Private Ltd.

Post this, Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal introduced the Student Council Members to the Chief Guest.

Meenaz Shariff is the Director of two companies namely Cascades Data Solutions India Pvt Ltd (Powered by Infomatics Corp, Virginia, USA) and Cirrus Labs Private Ltd (Subsidiary of Cirrus Labs, Atlanta, USA). She is spearheading the expansion of both the companies in India (IT Industry). Having successfully carved a brand in the US with large insurance companies, banks, corporates as their clients, she is now confident of making a breakthrough in the Indian market as well. She has also been overlooking operations of their offices in Secunderabad, Mangaluru, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

While addressing the gathering, Ms. Meenaz Shariff, acknowledged that India is on the right path through Technological Excellence and should not lose focus. India should be acclaimed for its social harmony. She shared anecdotes of Virat Kohli and urged students to challenge one’s self. She stimulated them to be brave and not let go of the opportunities. Meenaz shared the importance of knowing one’s potentials and capitalize it for career growth.

Post her speech; students recited Bankim Chandra’s, “Vande Mataram”, The National Song. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Dr. Rajesha, Dean-Academics, HODs of various departments and the Company Heads were also part of the occasion.

MBA Faculty invited as a Resource Person for a session on “Career Advancement” at St. Agnes College, Mangaluru

As a part of its centenary year celebrations, St. Agnes College, Mangaluru is organizing a total of 100 student-centric events this year and Prof. Sushma V, Dept. of Business Administration-MBA was invited as a Resource Person for a session on “Career Advancement” for their final year BA students. During her session, she emphasized on the 4 H’s (Head, Heart, Hand & Health) of Life Skills by sharing anecdotes of her life. She assisted students on drafting their Resume, gave inputs on preparing for their job interview and stimulated them to take up higher education. She even offered assistance on their placements as Prof. Sushma V is the Founder & CEO of “Sahyadri HR Solutions LLP” which has clients looking for graduates.

During her closing remarks, she encouraged students to register for Sahyadri 10K Run to be held on 02-02-2020.

Student of Computer Science & Engineering attends Microsoft Student Partner Summit

Mr. Nathaniel Ryan Mathew a 6th Semester student of Computer Science & Engineering was invited to attend the Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) Summit 2020 – India, held at New Delhi. The Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) Summit 2020 – India was a One-Day Leadership and Technical Conference for students who have been selected as Microsoft Student Partners from India.

For the entire day, all Microsoft Student Partners were provided with leadership and technical training by Microsoft Experts. The MSPs learnt of better and scalable ways to run a Developer Community on their University Campus, to enable them with technology, and connect with local leaders and peers.

Mr. Nathaniel is also the Vice-Captain of the Mozilla Campus Club at Sahyadri, and a Founding-member/Design Head of Sahyadri Open-Source Community (SOSC)- a community, driven by tech enthusiasts and open-source contributors, to help young students to be part of the open-source ecosystem by providing training and skill development.

Sahyadri 10K Run Mangaluru – Celebrating Milestones through Racing the Road Ahead

The “10K Run Open to All” category of the ‘Sahyadri 10K Run Mangaluru’ is for Men and Women from all professions aged 18 years and above. It is open to doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, corporates, industrialists and artistes etc.
Professionals are always looked upon as role models and nation-builders because they have chosen to go the extra mile.

Introduction of the Mentor:
Prof. Vijayalaxmi Kedilaya B is basically from Mangaluru. She obtained her B.E Degree in Civil Engineering from NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte and M.Tech Degree in Structural Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. She has published a Paper in Scopus Indexed Journal and one Book Chapter in Springer Publications. She has attended two international Conferences at NITK and Reva University. Her Areas of Interest include Structural Analysis, Steel Structures, and Earthquake Resistant Design.

Introduction of the Mentees:
• Rithvik Aleevoraya is from Mangaluru. He pursued his PUC from Sharada PU College, Mangaluru. He has participated in the Common Wealth Powerlifting competition in Canada. He secured 2 gold medals for India in sub-junior category. He has also won gold medals in the sub-junior category of Classic Bench Press and Equipped Bench Press. His interest lies in sports, music and volunteering works. He aspires to become a successful Structural Engineer.

• Thushar is from Kasargod. He pursued his schooling from Sharada Vidyaniketan. His has won 3 gold medals in Taekondo in Club Match held at Bengaluru. His hobbies include music, sports and dance. He aspires to become a successful Design Engineer.

• Ullasa Kalkura is from Kundapur. He pursued his schooling from Herga Vittal Shetty School, Karkala. His hobbies are bike riding, cooking and painting. He aspires to become a successful Civil Engineer.
