Sahyadri Team met The Police Commissioner of Mangaluru – Mr. N Shashikumar

As a follow up to the Introductory Remarks made by the newly appointed Police Commissioner of Mangaluru – Mr. N Shashikumar during a Press conference, Sahyadri Team visited the office of the Commissioner and interacted with him on 16th Jan, 2021.
While taking charge as the Police Commissioner, during a press conference, Mr. N Shashikumar expressed how delighted he was to be posted in Mangaluru as it is an education hub and he called upon the Educationists to join hands with the civil service in order to bring reforms in the city. This stimulated the Sahyadri Team comprising of – Principal, Dr. Rajesha S; Director-MBA, Dr. Vishal Samartha; Dean-Strategic Planning, Prof. Ramesh K G and Prof. Sushma V from the MBA Department to meet and discuss how Sahyadri could play a role in creating awareness and positively impacting the society. The Police Commissioner had words of praise for the institution and has assured his visit to the campus in the days to come as he is keen to address the students.

Fire Safety training organized for the teaching faculty and non-teaching staff members

Fire Safety and Emergency response training was organised by Sahyadri- NSS unit for the teaching faculty and non-teaching staff members on Saturday 16th Jan, 2021. Mr Jagadish Adapa, Chairman and Managing Director of Usha Fire Saftey Equipment Pvt Ltd, Chennai and his team trained the staff about the different class of fires and fuels and the methods such as Starvation, blanketing and Cooling to tackle fire hazards. Mr Jagadish demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers for different types of fuels.

The participants were given a practical experience of using fire extinguishers and other methods of fire fighting. More than 60 staff received the benefit of this training. Mr Jagadish Adapa was assisted by his team of experts, Mr Varun, Head-Business Development, Mr Padmaprasad Shastry, Sales Manager and Mr Dinesh, Stores and Sales, Usha Fire and Safety Equipment, Mangaluru. The training conducted had received wonderful feedback from the participants.

Induction programme for Newly Joined Faculty Members – Day Five

Mr. Gautham Nayak, Social Innovation Program Head, TCE, addressed the newly joined faculty members about the Social Innovation Programme at Sahyadri. In his address, he spoke about what is social innovation, its importance and how it has evolved over the past five years at Sahyadri. Mr. Gautham shared how the social innovation programme has played a major role in thriving project based learning amongst the students over the previous years. Various milestones achieved by students through the social innovation programme was also presented before the newly joined faculty.
The second session was followed by Dr. Prashantha Rao, HOD, Basic Science Dept. In this session, Dr Prashantha shared his life experience as a student and how the same evolved after chosing teaching as his profession. He motivated the newly joined faculty members to perform to the best of their abilities in this profession and highlighted about the qualities a good teacher must possess throughout this journey of teaching career.

First Year Students-Social Innovation Program Presentation

As a part of the Social Innovation Program for first year engineering students, a session was conducted on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and students were asked to present a Mind Map of their daily meal on topic SDG's on my plate .
Students from Section H of team comprising Mohammed Sohail Aboobakkar, Harshith Bekal, Trishan B K, Sathwik M Bekal and Section A Vignesh,Karthik K, Srusti Balgi, Chirashree Padmashali,Prithvi Ganesh were awarded with best presentation Certificate to appreciate their efforts and creativity.

Social Innovation team from Sahyadri visited ‘Aquacult Shrimp farm, Mangalore’ to understand the problems of shrimp farming

As part of the Social Innovation Program, Mr. Gautham Nayak, Program Head, Centre for Social Innovation, Mr. Gouse Khan, Manager NAIN, Mr. Prajwal Shetty and Mr. Thilak V S, Final Year students of Mechanical Engineering and Ms. Abhinaya, Final year student of Information Science and Engineering visited Aquacult Shrimp farm, Mulki,Mangalore on 16th Jan, 2021.
The team interacted with Mr. Yash Raj, Founder, Aquacult Shrimp farm, regarding the Social Innovation Program and the facilities available on campus which could nurture ideas to solve industry defined problem statements. Mr. Yash explained the process of shrimp culturing and the problems faced by the aquaculture farmers. He also stressed the need for developing monitoring devices that could help in effective data collection of the important parameters pertaining to shrimp farms. The team has collected valuable insights and received problem statements from the shrimp farm to improve the current monitoring systems for efficient shrimp culture.
