Orientation for Parents of New Entrants Held in the Campus

The Orientation Programme for parents of new entrants to the Engineering stream was held in the Campus.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, welcomed the parents of the new batch and addressed the parents and urged them to look beyond academics to shape a better future for their wards. He explained how the Bridge Course will help the students after their PUC education, and he also advised the parents to encourage them to take part in projects and synchronise their thoughts with their wards.

Vice Principal Dr. A. J. Antony explained the importance of keeping in touch with the class teachers of their respective ward and invited them to visit the college from time to time to know their performance.

Prof. Umashankar B.S. Dean (Academics), addressed the parents on academic preparation and touched upon the finer details in the academic system. He emphasized on the need for regular attendance and requested the parents to keep track of the academic performance of their wards.

Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, HOD, Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Manoj Kumar, HOD, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Prof. Manu A. P., HOD, Information Science & Engineering, Prof. Umesh S. S., HOD, Civil Engineering, Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Computer Science & Engineering, introduced themselves and briefed about their departments and the facilities available. Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, HOD, Department of Placement & Placement Training and Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HOD, Department of Training, gave an overview of the placement requirements and the various training activities provided to the students.

Prof . Nitheesha Rodrigues, HOD, Physical Education and Mr. Naveen Pilar , Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, highlighted the activities of their departments and the various awards won by the students.

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, gave an overview of the college background. He quoted with examples how the institution benefits from the hard work and the dedication of the students. He spoke about the importance of value added courses and also requested the parents to encourage their wards to make use of every opportunity provided by the institute and beyond. He emphasized on the need for building analytical aptitude and attitude of the students. He urged the parents to take up educational loans in the name of their wards to make the students more financially responsible.

Bridge Course for New Entrants Gets Underway

The three-week Bridge Course for the new entrants to the engineering stream commenced in the Campus. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, gave an overview of the college background, formulation of Bridge Course and its importance. He quoted with examples how the institution benefits from the hard work and the dedication of the students. He spoke about the quality of basic education which is provided in the college and to enhance the skills of the students he gave the importance of value added courses. Highlighting the facilities created for student projects, he motivated the students to do projects from the first year itself. He also urged the students to prepare for aptitude tests making use of the 24X7 exclusive computer laboratory facilities being provided for the placement department. He briefed about college rules and regulations.

Prof. Umashankar B.S., Dean Academics highlighted the new choice based credit system (CBCS) being introduced by VTU from the academic year 2015-16. Prof. Ananth Prabhu, Department of Computer Science continued the sessions with personality development.

Mr. Johnson Tellis, Mr. Prakyath, Mr. Rakshith, Alumni of the College addressed the new entrants in the afternoon session. They reflected on their experience of attending the bridge course during their engineering career. A brain storming session followed by a session giving emphasizes on projects and research was carried on. The session concluded with insights on attitude that one should possess and the right approach that a student should take in order to become a successful engineer.

Unaisa Begum with 79.60% has topped the Sahyadri College in the Semester VIII Information Science & Engineering Examination of 2014-15 held by VTU. Divya Kasturi obtained the second position in the college with 78.53% while Navyashree Shetty B. with 77.47% stands third. Thirty-one students took the examination with 19 students securing a distinction, 10 students a first class and two students a second class with the department scoring 100% results in the examination.

Mr. Sunil Kumar K. has joined the Department of Civil Engineering as an Assistant Professor. He obtained his B. E. degree in Civil Engineering from KVG College of Engineering, Sullia, and M.Tech. in CAD Structures from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. His area of Specialization is CAD Structures.
