Team "Sahyadri Motorsports" successfully cleared the national level "VIRTUAL BAJA - 2016" contest held at Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The team is now eligible to participate in BAJA SAE INDIA – 2017 [decade edition] which is the final round. It was organized by SAE INDIA and around 412 teams participated from various engineering colleges across India.

Five members of the team: Bhavik Das [team captain], Jostal Rayan D’Souza, Devesh Dubey, Sudeep K., Pranav Padavu represented the college team in this event. The team is ranked 57th scoring 151.5 out of 200. The fabrication of the all- terrain vehicle will commence shortly.

SAE BAJA is an intercollegiate design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The SAE BAJA Series has grown to become a premier engineering design series for various university teams. Teams of students from different institutions all over the country, participate in this event of designing and building small off-road cars. All cars that are designed for this event have engines of the same specifications. The goal in SAE BAJA racing is to design, build and race off-road vehicles that can withstand the harshest elements of rough terrain. The vehicles used in Baja SAE racing are often similar in appearance to dune buggies.

There are multiple dynamic events, as well as an endurance race. The dynamic events include hill climbs, maneuverability event and suspension & traction events. Static events, such as written reports, presentations and design evaluations are provided by participating teams. This is when the teams are judged on ergonomics, functionality, and productivity of their cars; ensuring that the final placement of the team does not rest solely on the vehicle's performance but rather on a combination of static and dynamic events.
