A Two-Days Workshop for freshers organized by Google ACSA program

RDL Technologies Pvt Limited and Yenepoya Research Centre sign MoU After being selected as Google ACSA Facilitator for 2017-18, Mr. Prathviraj Shetty from the department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was invited for a two day boot camp at Google Office, Bangalore where he was trained to deliver effective workshops.

The workshop was conducted with a collaborative effort by Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) members and Mr. Prathviraj Shetty as speakers under the able guidance and mentorship of Mr. Johnson Tellis, DTLabz and Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean (Academics). Over 70 students were trained in Android and CS practice during the workshop.

Applied CS with Android is an initiative to bring in practical applications into CS Theory. It gives them a strong foundation in algorithms and data structures. The program employs a "Flipped Classroom" approach where students learn through collaboration with other participants and hands on coding experience. It gives them exposure to real world Android Application development as the participants create games for mobile devices.

The workshop started with basics of Computer Science and C programming. The units covered during the workshop were Anagrams, Scarne's Dice, WordStack, Ghost and Ghost II. The freshers brought in a lot of energy into the workshop and enjoyed it. They provided amazing feedback and have expressed their desire to attend more such workshops in the future. They were excited and enthusiastic about what would come ahead in their CS careers.

Fifth Interaction Session for the Parents of New Entrants to Engineering Batch 2018 is held at the campus

Dr. Steven L. Fernandes interacts with Dr. Garan and Dr. Ciaccio, Columbia University, USA Interaction session for the parents of new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman extended a warm welcome to the parents. In his address he briefed the parents on the overall growth of the college since its inception. He stated that engineering is a process of learning the concepts, rather than studying. He called upon the parents to stimulate their children to utilize the facilities available in the campus and emphasised on creative thinking. He shared some of his personal views asking parents to develop a friendly relationship with their ward and also closely monitor every activity of theirs. He insisted the parents to teach basic life skills that are required for an individual thus making their child self-dependent, reliable and employable. He mentioned about the platform provided to the students to compete in national and international level events. He suggested that parents avail educational loan in order to make their child financially responsible. He gave additional details about the E-buzz, E-magazine and Newsletter. He reiterated the importance of dress code that every student must follow in the campus.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director-Strategy & Planning, in his speech requested parents to motivate and support their children in such a way that the child enjoys the process of education. He mentioned that parents should make their children more independent so that their common sense will improve. He also said that one should teach a child how to face defeat and come out of it.

Mr. Ankith S. Kumar inaugurates NSS Unit and Eco-Club at Kanachur PU College for Women

Dr. Steven L. Fernandes interacts with Dr. Garan and Dr. Ciaccio, Columbia University, USA Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, Student Counsellor was invited as Chief Guest to inaugurate the NSS Unit and Eco-Club at Kanachur PU College for Women, Deralakatte, Mangalore. The inauguration was done by lighting the lamp and planting a sapling. More than 150 students volunteered towards NSS and Eco Club for the current academic year.

While addressing the students, Mr. Ankith S. Kumar informed them about how NSS can change their lives. It can help them build confidence, team work, develop selfless service attitude and improve leadership skills. He motivated the students to take the opportunity that comes their way and never let fear be an obstacle to achieve their dream.
