Meeting of Governing Council was held at the campus  The Governing Council meeting of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was held at the campus on Sunday, 21st July 2019. The purpose of the Governing Council meeting is to present and discuss the progress of Sahyadri and the various initiatives and processes implemented for the development of the college.

1. Dr. K.N. Balasubramanya Murthy (Educationist), Vice Chancellor, PES University,
2. Dr. M.V. Subramanian (entrepreneur), Managing Director, Future Focus Info Tech Pvt. Ltd.,
3. Dr. B. Sadashive Gowda –VTU nominee
The Governing Council meeting provides a platform for the approval of certain steps taken and initiatives to be taken further for the growth of the college.

Dr. K N Balasubramanya Murthy delivers a talk on the topic “What a good University Should do?” As a part of the Governing Council meeting, Dr. K N Balasubramanya Murthy, Vice Chancellor, PES University delivered a talk on “What a good University should do?” in the presence of all the Governing Council members and Heads of the Department, to throw light on various hindrances in the higher education and what can be done to overcome the same to perform well.

In his talk, Dr. Murthy highlighted the responsibility of the faculties in nurturing the quality and passion in students apart from securing a good job. He stressed on TIPS – the Key performance indicators i.e. Teacher, Infrastructure, Process and Students.

Dr. Murthy emphasised that catering to the various requirements of all the stakeholders will make an institute world class which will result in accomplished faculties and students. He also highlighted on building TRP (Transform, Reform, Perform) strategy by including Training, Research and Placement.

Dr. Murthy raised topics on issues in higher education and the conventional education system. He suggested a few drastic measures to be taken, like engaging with students, creating bridge courses, collaboration between departments, introducing research at all levels, redefining projects and examination, inclusion of gadgets in learning, encouraging quality publications, industry collaboration, start-ups etc.

In conclusion, he stated that forging successful partnerships would help in the long run for an institute to grow at the global level.

Introduction of speakers of TEDxSCEM 2019

TEDxSCEM is being held on Sunday, 28th July 2019 at Sahyadri. Eight eminent personalities, from various domains will be speaking at this prestigious event. We are introducing 3 speakers a day. Today, we will be introducing speakers from the technical and defence spheres including one survivor who is extraordinary and a great inspiration.

Introduction of speakers of TEDxSCEM 2019 Siddharth Rajhans
Mr. Siddharth Rajhans is a Harvard educated first generation technology entrepreneur, a Silicon Valley Technocrat and product expert, management researcher, TEDx and motivational speaker and pioneer of the Outernet Technology in India and the Asia Pacific Region.

Mr. Rajhans is currently a Principal Policy Officer working on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) format of the United Nations in New York and has previously worked as a Product Manager for Apple in Singapore and spearheaded Apple’s ‘Everyone Can Code’ project. He also heads the startup called “Spacify” as a co-founder and CEO, which has been working to provide satellite-powered internet or “Outernet” in Singapore and parts of rural India as part of the Digital India initiative.

Mr. Rajhans is on the board of several universities, including DAVV Indore, Symbiosis Indore, RGPV Bhopal and de facto advisor to several others, including the likes of IIT Kharagpur, NIT Kurukshetra, UPES Dehradun and NMIMS Bengalore for bridging the industry academia gap.

TEDxSCEM 2019 to be held at SahyadriDhanya Ravi
“I think my bones break but I have never been broken,” says Ms. Dhanya Ravi also known as the “Glass Woman”, with conviction. Born with a rare genetic disorder, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), commonly known as brittle bone disease, Dhanya, however, is made of sterner belief and refuses to be hamstrung by impediments.

Ms. Dhanya, who had consulted over 50 specialists across the country, says she has suffered over 300 fractures since birth. However, the gritty woman, a native of Palakkad, has learnt to tide over obstacles. Today, she is a motivational speaker and a freelance content writer for whom “the Internet is my world.”

Ms. Dhanya is also an active member of city-based community initiative Amritavarshini Charitable Society, which aims to lend assistance to those afflicted with the disorder. She also spends much of her time participating in various awareness campaigns.

TEDxSCEM 2019 to be held at SahyadriBrigadier I N Rai
Brigadier I N Rai was commissioned as the second lieutenant in the Sikh Light Infantry in 1970 and took part in the historic 1971 Indo-Pak War. As a Captain, he was involved in operations against Naga Guerillas and as a Major, he commanded a Rifle Company facing the Chinese in East Ladakh. He has also operated in Sri Lanka as part of IPKF.

After being promoted to the post of a Colonel, Brigadier Rai commanded an Infantry Battalion in LOC at GUREZ, for which he was awarded the COAS Unit Citation. Later, as a Brigadier, he commanded the Mountain Brigade in East Sikkim. He has the distinction of being an instructor in Officers Training Academy, Chennai and as Brigadier in Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

Dean - Placement attends Placement Officer’s Meet at SAP, Bengaluru

“So what’s new in Placement Officers this year” was the agenda of the Placement Officers Meet held on 19th July 2019 at SAP, Bengaluru. Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, Dean Placement had been a part of the Meet which was conducted with intent to strengthen Industry-Academic Collaboration. During the Meet, this year’s campus recruitment plan, industry trend and the company’s expectation from candidates was highlighted.


AT SAP, students are undergoing a ‘Scholar@SAP’ program jointly organised by BIT Pilani, to induct and nurture young talent. SAP arranged for an interaction of the Placement officers with these students. A brainstorming session ‘Search Inside Yourself – Mindfulness’ was conducted. Finally, an interaction with SAP leaders was held during which their expectations from colleges were highlighted.

• Mr. S.V. Prasad has joined the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering as an Assistant Professor. He completed his B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering and M.Tech in Digital Electronics & Communication Engineering from KVG College of Engineering, Sullia. His area of specialisation is Digital Electronics & Communication VLSI.

• Ms. Ashitha K. has joined as an Assistant Professor of English in the Department of Humanities. She completed her B.A. from Don Bosco Art & Science College, Kannur University, and M.A (English) from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. Her area of specialization is English.
