Inauguration of Online AICTE-ISTE National Refresher Programme organized by Dept. of Mechanical Engineering

AICTE_ISTE_refresher_InaugSession1 Dept. of Mechanical Engineering is organizing a week long All India Level AICTE-ISTE Online Refresher Programme and the Inauguration was held on 25th March’2021. The programme has received sponsor of Rs. 3,00,000/- jointly from AICTE and ISTE, Govt. of India. Dr. Rajesha S, Principal welcomed the gathering and Dr. Rathishchandra R Gatti, Professor and the organizing Secretary of the event presented the schedule of the event. Dr. S Manjappa, Director (R&D & Consultancy) and Advisory Committee member of the event spoke about the importance of Collaborative and Cooperative Learning. The Chief Guest of the event - Dr. B E Rangaswamy, Registrar-Evaluation, VTU inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering.
In his inaugural address, he stressed that Collaborative learning and Cooperative learning is the key to implement NEP. He emphasized that students must not only learn the technical skills but also be team players, develop leadership and communication skills, and multidisciplinary skills that is required for new emerging technologies and products. Dr. Ravichandra K R, Head of Mechanical Engineering and Chairman of the organizing committee delivered the vote of thanks. Members of the organizing committee, Dr. Nalini E Rebello, Dean-Academics; Dr. Srinath, Professor and COO; Prof. Ajith BS, Prof. Pavitra Ajagol, Prof. Soumyashree and Mr. Vishal Bajpe were present during the session.
The AICTE-ISTE Refresher Programme will be conducted online in three phases:
Phase 1 - 25 March 2021 to 31 March 2021,
Phase II – 06 April 2021 to 12 April 2021 and
Phase III - 22 April 2021 to 28 April 2021.
Day Two (Friday, 26th March’2021):
SESSION_1_RESOURCE_PERSONseesion1 The First session was engaged by Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Associate Professor, NITTTR, Chandigarh on “Active Learning: Concept and characteristics”. She highlighted the significance of Teaching Process, Principles of Effective Teaching, and Learning, Active Learning Techniques, importance of Cooperative and Collaborative learning, and barriers in Teaching learning process.
SESSION_2_RESOURCE_PERSONseesion2 The Second session was engaged by Dr. Flosy Dsouza, Associate Professor, St Ann's PG Studies & Research in Education, Mangaluru on “Active learning Strategies”. She stressed on the Paradigm shift in teaching and learning process, Learning objectivities, activities and Assessment, Blooms Taxonomy and Revised Taxonomy, common methods/Strategies in learning process.
SESSION_3_RESOURCE_PERSONseesion3 The Third session was engaged by Dr. Rathishchandra R. Gatti, Professor, Head of projects and funding, Sahyadri on “Collaborative tools for student-faculty research teams”. In his presentation he highlighted the student-faculty collaborative research culture, research standards, and usage of collaborative information search tools and collaborative information storage tools.
SESSION_4_RESOURCE_PERSONseesion4 The Fourth session was engaged by Dr. Lewlyn LR. Rodrigues, Professor, MIT Manipal on “Modern Teaching Methods”. He spoke on the effect of modern tools like Flipped Classroom, Project-Based Learning, Cooperative Learning, Gamification, Problem-Based Learning, Design Thinking, Thinking-Based Learning, and Competency-Based Learning on the teaching learning process.

Alumna of Sahyadri Engineering, Awarded Gold Medal for securing Second Rank in MBA from Mangalore University

Ayesha_Mehar Ayesha Mehar, an Alumna of Sahyadri Engineering has secured 2nd Rank in her MBA from Mangalore University - “Shree Ramakrishna Mallya Gold Medal” for Top Scorer and “Canara Bank Gold Medal” for Best Academic performance for the academic year 2017-19. Sahyadri is proud of our Alumna and we celebrate her success.

Peer to Peer Leaning for First Year Engineering Students

peertopeer As a part of peer to peer learning process for first year engineering students, Ms. Sowmya of A section has taken a session on Newton's law of Cooling for her fellow classmates. She has explained the formation of differential equation for this model with the help of real time examples. The session was very interactive and well accepted by the students. Dr. Prashanth Rao, Head of Basic Science Department coordinated the session.

Placement and Training - Alumni Interaction

Alumni_Interaction Mr. Chethan Kumar, an alumnus from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, currently working in TCS, Bengaluru interacted with the Placement Department. He shared his experience through a video recording where he advised the Non IT students about the amount of job opportunities for them in IT. He also feels that IT is not just limited to programming/coding and involves a lot more vast topics like IoT, Mechanical Designs and Analysis, Robotics etc.

Sahyadri NSS Unit organizes Special Camp for NSS volunteers at Farangipet

Special_Camp_for_NSS_volunteers Sahyadri with the support of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi and Sevanjali Charitable Trust, Farangipet, organized an NSS special camp at Sevanjali Auditorium, Farangipet. The NSS special camp was inaugurated on 25th March’2021 by Mr. Ramlan, President, Pudu Gram Panchayat. In his inaugural speech, he encouraged the students to involve in social services at greater extent and use their skills learnt through engineering for the betterment of society. Ms. Shreelatha U A, Program Officer, Sahyadri College NSS unit gave the introductory remarks. The inaugural function was graced by the presence of Mr. Krishna Kumar Poonja, President of Sevanjali Charitable Trust Farangipet as the Chief Guest, and Ms. Mamatha, Supervisor, Dharmasthala Self Help Group and Dr. Hemantha Prabhu, Head of Dept. of Civil Engineering. Dr. Prasanth Rao, Head of Basis Sciences addressed the NSS volunteers on this occasion. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice- Principal Presided over the function. Ms. Reshmitha Girish Nishal facilitated the event.
The NSS volunteers will be trained on leadership skills, communication skills and teamwork. They will also be volunteering in various community-building activities over the course of this camp.
Day 1 of the camp began with a session by Ms. Shreelatha U A, NSS Programme Officer. She explained the history, aims, objectives, motto and working of the National Service Scheme. She congratulated the students for joining NSS. The next session was taken up by Prof. Padmanabha, Dept. of Business Administration on "Team Building". He engaged the students in an exciting team building activity. The day was concluded by a Session on "Flag Hoisting Protocols" by Ms. Nithisha Rodriguez and Mr. Karna Kumar, Dept. of Physical Education who also conducted fun games at the event.
