Faculty Member Invited to deliver Guest Lecture

Prof. Ramesh K. G., Department of Business Administration, was invited by the Department of PG studies, SMS College, Brahmavar to deliver a guest lecture on "Insurance Management". The lecture covered varied topics like Social Insurance, Pension Plans, Insurance Pricing, Govt. role in Development of Insurance Sector and Disaster Management.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri


• Dakshina Kannada District Administration, District Legal Services Authority, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, and Mangalore City Corporation in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru, will observe "World Water Day" at 09:30 am in the Seminar Hall.

Shri. C. M. Joshi, Hon’ble first addition District & Sessions Judge D.K District, Mangaluru, will inaugurate the programme. The chief guest is Sri A. B Ibrahim, IAS, Deputy Commissioner D.K district Mangaluru, accompanied by Smt. P. I. Srividya, IAS, CEO, ZP, D.K District, Mangaluru, Dr. C Rajashekar Murthy, Professor Emeritus, Environmental Engineering, Canada and Dr. H. N. Gopalakrishna, KAS, Commissioner, Mangaluru City Corporation.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, SCEM, Mangaluru, will preside followed by technical sessions by the resource persons on the following topics.

• “World Water Day Theme” by Dr. H. N. Chanakya, Chairman, Centre for Sustainable Technology, IISc, Bengaluru.

• Dr. G. Srinikethan, Professor, Dept. of Chemical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal, on “Emerging Waste Treatment Technologies for Industries”.

• Dr. Shankar, Professor, Dept. of Marine Geology, Mangalore University, on “Ground Water Recharge and its Potential”

• Dr. S. Manjappa, Director (Research & Consultancy), SCEM, Mangaluru, on “Water for Health and Food”

There is no life without water. Yet it is not often mentioned that the availability and sustainable management of water has a direct link with the creation of quality jobs. The theme of 2016 World Water Day – Better Water, Better Jobs – aims to highlight how water can create paid and decent work while contributing to a greener economy and sustainable development.

• Panel Discussion on “Karnataka State Budget 2016-17” has been organized from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm at Nethravathi Auditorium. Mr. Santhosh Prabhu, Practicing Lawyer, Udupi, Prof. Premalatha Pai, HOD – Economics, SVS College, Bantwal, and Mr. Badruddin Azman, an Industrialist, Belthangady are the resource persons for the programme.

Martyrs Day Observed at Sahyadri

Martyrs Day was observed in the College. Mr. Joseph V. J. and Mr. Shivaram Rai were the chief guests on the occasion.

Hawaldar Joseph V. J. with an experience of 18 years in the Indian Army came all the way from Rajasthan to encourage students. He is the brother of Francis, manager-administration. He spoke about his experience on the Siachen border where he was posted for three years and urged students to do their bit for the nation. He said, “Becoming a soldier is not an easy task, but becoming something your nation will remember is not that difficult to do”.

Mr. Shivaram Rai also an ex-army man, and has been serving in Sahyadri encouraged the students and inspired them to conduct such events. He spoke about the importance of time and discipline in life.

Nivya Rodrigues, I semester, elctronics and communication shared the importance of this day. Patriotic songs were sung by Kaushal & Malavika. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Umashankar B.S., Dean Academics Mrs. Shreelatha U A, AAO., and Prof. Rakshith Shetty were present on the occasion. Students themselves gave the idea of observing Martyrs Day. Karthik Ramakrishna, President, Student Council and its members made the event an auspicious one.
