• Start a Project with the end in Mind and hence one should have a strong orientation towards the goal
• We can visualize the goal for 1 year based on his/her passion and a goal for more than 1 year is only possible when one knows his/her purpose of life and job
• OKR – Objects and Key Results are critical for the success of any project
• Make a list of problem statements, classify them as Hyper-Local, Local, Regional, National and Global level, Research on how these problems have been solved in the past and trigger a challenge to the students to solve the problem with technology

Sahyadri organised workshop on Aspects of LTE-4G Sahyadri organised workshop on Aspects of LTE-4G Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organised a three day workshop on “Aspects of LTE-4G”. The TEQIP 1.3 sponsored workshop was organised in association with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) and RDL Pvt. Ltd.

The inaugural ceremony started with a formal ceremony in the presence of Dr. M.H. Kori, Technical Director (Retd.), Alcatel-Lucent Technologies; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; and Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head of the Department, Electronics & Communication Engineering. Faculty, students and participants from various colleges were also present. Dr. Ashwath Rao welcomed the dignitaries. He gave a brief introduction about the three-day workshop with its schedule and contents to be imparted in the training.

In his address, Dr. M.H. Kori emphasized on the importance of learning new technologies and tools for faculty and the students. He gave an insight into the importance of wireless communication. He highlighted the history of Department of Telecommunication (DOT) and went on to say that availing telephone connection in India before BSNL existed was a tedious task. He shed some light on various statistics regarding the present mobile phone usage in India and worldwide. As per the survey done as recently as January 2019, over 120 Crores of telephone connections exist in India, out of which 110 crores are mobile users. He said that mobile manufacturing units were not a part of India till 2015 and only one or two indigenous companies manufacture mobile phones as of today.

Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte briefed us about the importance of this workshop which is believed to be the cutting edge in the telecommunication domain.

The program was concluded with Mrs. Roopashree, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, proposing the vote of thanks.

SilverPeak Global (SPG), visits Sahyadri

SilverPeak Global (SPG), visits Sahyadri SilverPeak Global (SPG), Japan, visited Sahyadri and interacted with a selected number of students and their parents about careers in Japan for Indian engineers. The session provided a clear understanding regarding the program, the Japanese culture, internship and job opportunities that would be offered to the students. The session concluded with a Q&A session wherein all the parents clarified their doubts and concerns.

SilverPeak Global is an organisation headquartered in Nagasaki, Japan. Their operations are spread across seven nations including Japan, South Korea, India, New Zealand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
• SPG represents the “Study in Japan” initiative of the Government of Japan.
• SPG is the sole exclusive representative for conducting the Japanese Language Test – “J-cert - Life and Business Style Japanese Language Test” for the whole of India.

Sahyadri Students Selected for ICT Academy Student Innovator Award-Semi Finals Sahyadri Students Selected for ICT Academy Student Innovator Award-Semi Finals ICT Academy is an initiative of the Government of India in collaboration with the state governments and industries. This academy organised an event called "Student Innovator Award", which was held at Alliance University, Bengaluru. Under the Electronics Domain 2 teams were shortlisted:
• Team 1 comprising of Shwetha and Vaishakha M. of Semester VI, Electronics & Communication Engineering, presented the Project VL Glass
• Team 2 comprising of Chethan Kumar, Semester VI, Mechanical Engineering; Savain Kumar, Semester VI, Civil Engineering; and Basavarajeshwari Ambi, Semester IV, Information Science & Engineering; presented the Project One-Touch [Travel on Fingertip].

Both the Teams were mentored by Santhosh, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering

Mr. Shivakumar K.M. is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his B.E degree in Mechanical Engineering and M.Tech in Production Management from BVB College of Engineering & Technology, Hubli. He has a total of 8 years of work experience including 5 years of teaching and 3 years of Industrial experience.

• Varun D. Shetty is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from Canara High School, and PUC from Canara PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are drawing, coin collection and playing cricket. He has participated in an event held at IIT, Mumbai and won second prize in the line follower Robo competition. He aspires to be an entrepreneur.
• Srajan is from Udupi. He pursued his high school from T.A. Pai English Medium School, and PUC from MGM PU College, Udupi. His hobbies are drawing, and playing football and cricket. He has participated in event held at IIT, Varanasi and won fourth prize in Robo Race. He aspires to become a design engineer.
• Prajwal Shetty is from Mumbai. He pursued his high school from N.L. Dalmia School, Thane and PUC from Sharada PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing football and cricket. He has participated in technical event held at NITK-Surathkal and won third prize. He aspires to become an entrepreneur.
• Bharatesh is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling from Canara High School and PUC from Canara PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing cricket, chess and football. He has won first place in technical event held at IIT- Mandi and 9th place at IIT-Kharagpur. He aspires to become a successful entrepreneur.
• Udaykumar is from Vittla. He pursued his high school from DK Zilla Panchayath School and PUC from Puttur Govt PU College. He loves to play Volleyball and has participated in college level Volleyball matches. He aspires to become a design engineer.
• Sayyed Mohammed is from Manjeshwar. He pursued his high school from Sirajulhuda School, Manjeshwar and PUC from Yenepoya College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing cricket, football and drawing. He aspires to work in a reputed core company.
• Punith K. is from Sagar. He pursued his high school from PCS High School, Sagar and Diploma from R.N. Shetty Polytechnique, Sirsi. His hobbies are swimming, and playing cricket, chess. He has participated in interschool cricket matches. He aspires to become a successful engineer
