Prof. Richard Pinto was invited to deliver a lecture at IIT Bombay

Wish u a Happy Basava Jayanthi Prof. Richard Pinto delivered an Invited Lecture on 'Pulsed Laser Deposition' during the INUP Workshop held at IIT Bombay. INUP (Indian Nanoelecrtronics Users Program) is the Outreach Program initiated by IIT Bombay with financial support provided by DeitY, Govt. of India to make the IITB Nano electronics facilities available to all educational institutions in the country. Prof. Pinto was one of the key members of this programme during Sept. 2008 to December 2014 when his formal association with IIT Bombay ended. Currently, we at Sahyadri have two projects and two Research Scholars at INUP, IIT Bombay.

Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) is a powerful technique extensively used for growing thin films for all multi-component materials introduced by Prof. Pinto at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) way back in 1990. One of the pioneering results obtained at TIFR during 1990 to 2002 is the realization of highest critical current density, Jc, of 14 million amps per sq. cm at the liquid nitrogen boil-off temperature, 77K in 1992 in the new superconductor YBCO thin films grown by PLD. This result published in Applied Physics Letters in 1993 has very high citation index; equally important, this high Jc record still stands today even after 25 long years! Prof. Pinto is a leading expert in Pulsed laser Deposition in India. At Sahyadri, we have set up PLD facilities at the CENT Laboratory.
