Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2014 Zonal Level Events held at SVS PU College, Bantwal

The Zonal Level Competitions of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2014 was held at Sri Venkataramana Swamy Pre Universiy College, Bantwal Dr. Seetharama Mayya, Principal, SVS Degree College, Bantwal inaugurated the program. In his inaugural address Dr. Mayya appreciated the growth of Sahyadri in seven years and also the team of dedicated staff and students. Mrs. Shashikala, Principal, SVS PU College, presided over the function. She encouraged the students to actively take part in the events of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2014. Mr. Raghavendra Prabhu, Department of Business Administration, spoke about the objectives and need of such events in the modern world. Mrs. Ranjitha, Department of English, briefed about the competitions and declared the event open. Mr. Vasanth Kedige, Media Consultant, Aptra Technologies and Mrs. Kavitha, Coordinator, SVS College graced the occasion.

Asly Frinston Menezes, SVS PU College, won the first prize in Essay Competition. Himalaya, SVS PU College, bagged the Second place whereas Azmiya Haleema, B.A Pre University College, Thumbe won the third prize in the Essay Competition held on the topic ‘Impact of Mobile Phones in Our Daily Lives’.

A team from SVS PU College, comprised of Dillep, Vaishak and Melvin bagged the first prize , a team comprised of Asly Frinston Menezes, Himalaya and Shravan SVS PU College, and a team comprised of Krishnapriya, Apeksha and Supriya Rani, Sri Rama PU College, Kalladka won the second and the third prize respectively in Quiz Competition. The Project ‘Solar Grass Cutter’ by Sushrath and team, SVS PU College, Bantwal won the first prize in Project Exhibition Competition. The Project ‘ Conservation of Energy and Rover’ by Chethan and team, SVS PU College and the project ‘ Cell Phone Detector’ by Sourabh and team, Sri Rama PU College, Kalladka won the second and the third prize respectively in the Project Exhibition Competition.

The first prize in Model/Prototype/Poster Competition was bagged by the model on ‘Pollution’ by Manoj and team, Sri Rama PU College, the model on ‘Degradable’ by Grinton and team, SVS PU College and the model ‘Toilet Cleaner’ by Mithun and team, Government PU College, Benjanapadav won the second and the third prize respectively.

In the valedictory programme Mr. Nishanth, Student Coordinator read out the winners list. Mr. Shravan, Student Coordinator spoke about the projects exhibited and gave them some tips to improve the quality of work. Mrs. Shashikala, Principal, SVS PU College, Bantwal gave away prizes for the winners and mementos for the coordinators and the judges. Dr. Vidyavathi, Department of Business Administration congratulated all the winners and encouraged all the participants. Mr. Pavan, Participant, B.A Pre University College, Thumbe and Mrs. Mahima, Coordinator, Sri Rama PU College, Kalladka shared their experience and expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and support rendered by the Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and the sumptuous lunch and hospitality provided by the host college SVS Bantwal. They also opined that they receive invitations from various institutions but Sahyadri stood ahead by their orientation programme, demonstration and continuous support. Mrs. Akhila, Department of Information Science graced the occasion.

Coordinators and students from SVS Pre University College, Bantwal, B.A Pre University College, Thumbe, Sri Rama Pre University College, Kalladka and Government Pre University College, Benjanapadav participated with great spirit and enthusiasm in all the events. Dr. Savitha, Department of Chemistry, Mrs. Suchetha, Department of Mathematics, Mrs. Ankitha, Department of Computer Science and Mrs. Shruthi Ramdas facilitated the orientation and career guidance programme in all the pool colleges of the Zonal Sahyadri Talent Hunt held at SVS PU College Bantwal. Mr. Nishanth, Mr. Shravan, Ms. Vidya Bhat and Ms. Pragathi, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management were the student coordinators and judges of the event.

Mr. Sandesh S., Assistant Personnel Officer and team, Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS), conducted a written test for Mechanical Engineering students from pool colleges. The results are awaited.

Computer Society of India Certifies the College

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been certified as an Educational Institution Member by the Computer Society of India. It is a great honour for the College.

`Id8’ Google Student Community Event Held in the Campus

The Mangalore Chapter of Google Student Community launched its second event – “Id8” (read as “ideate”) at the Campus. The “design thinking session” saw participants from three colleges- PA College of Engineering, St. Aloysius Degree College and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. The participants were asked to design a solution for the problem statement – “How to make education more fun and accessible?” A two-hour hands- on session on the concept of design thinking and 10X thinking was given by the Google Student Ambassador, Karthik Ramakrishnan, following which, the teams made their prototypes and marketed them to a set of jury members. The three winning teams were awarded cash prizes, along with a chance to assist the team of engineers working on mega Android and Cloud projects. The terms of impact was reached on a quality basis rather than a quantity basis, since all the teams came up with unique and creative solutions.

Ms. Krithi, Semester I, Electronics & Communication Engineering, is a multi talented person. She has participated and won prizes in Classical Dance Competitions and Race events like 100mts, 200mts, and 1500 relay and high jump held at the School and College level.
