Former Minister of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka, visits Sahyadri

Mr Rahim Mahmood Khan, Former Minister, Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka, visited Sahyadri on 13th Nov’19 and interacted with the Chairman, Mr Manjunath Bhandary.

Mr Khan expressed that it was a nice experience to visit the campus of such a magnitude. He was greatly overwhelmed by the substantial infrastructure and lush green ambience of the college.

Mr Rahim Mahmood Khan is an Indian Politician who is the current MLA from Bidar North constituency. As a former minister he served in the Ministry of Shri H D Kumaraswamy, Former Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Mechanical Engineering Faculty invited as Chief Guest at the Zonal Event of SSTH 2K19, held at Shri Dharmasthala Pre-University College, Ujire

Prof. Vaishak N L, Department of Mechanical Engineering, was invited as chief guest at the zonal event of SSTH-2019, at SDM PU College Ujire on 12th Nov’19. Prof. Yadupathi Gowda, Principal, Vani PU College Belthangady, inaugurated the event.

In his inaugural speech, Prof. Gowda encouraged the students to utilize the Sahyadri forum to develop their idea into a product. He being closely associated with Sahyadri is optimistic about the fact that students can contribute to Make in India and Start up India program by getting appropriate guidance from the experts at Sahyadri.

Prof. Vaishak in his address, pointed out that SSTH is just a beginning. Thereafter, students can explore opportunities in the campus such as assistance for applications for patent, presenting the idea in Elevate 100, Sustainability Development Goal (SDG) programs and so on with the help of mentors from start ups, industry and launch pads.

Prof. Vaishak also spoke about the achievements of Sahyadri in different fields, highlighting in particular the achievements of SDM PU Alumni, now pursuing their studies in Sahyadri. He stressed on the importance of mentor mentee system in the campus.

Prof. Suhas, and Mr. Ajith Kumar, Department of Mechanical Engineering were the coordinators for the event. First Year students associated with DT Labz viz. Ms. Shubhajna Rai, Ms. Bhakthi P Alva, Ms. Athmika Shetty, Mr. Deepak Bhandary, Mr. Vaishak Shetty and Mr. Abhiashek were the student coordinators.
Sixty models were exhibited at the event and 800 students from SDM PUC, SDM Residential College and students from neighbouring colleges witnessed the program.

Sahyadrians achieve in the 20th VTU Youth Fest ‘Insignia-2019’ held at SDM College of Engineering & Technology, Dharawada

Thirty engineering students including one MBA student participated in various events at ‘Insignia-2019’ the 20th VTU Youth Fest, at SDM College of Engineering & Technology, Dharawada. The team won 3rd Place in Folk Orchestra.

Mr Aakarsh Naidu
Mr Aakarsh Naidu is the founder and CEO of The Startupreneur, an enterprise aimed at building a comprehensive ecosystem to foster innovation and entrepreneurship by working with educational institutions, incubators, corporates and govt organisations. He has been in charge of start-up ecosystem engagement, strategic initiatives and incubation at NSRCEL at IIM, Bengaluru. He is also a mentor at The Founder Institute, WRI, IB Hubs and Catalyst for Women Entrepreneurs (CWE).

Mr Uday Birje
Co-founder and Director of ThinkStreet Technologies, Mr. Uday Birje, has led many initiatives in large MNCs and start-ups, and has over 25 years of experience in his field. He has held various leadership positions in organizations including DEC, Cabletron Systems, Net Devices, Alcatel Lucent, and, most recently, Hewlett-Packard. He has led many innovative ventures, most notable of which is the HP Network University in collaboration with the International Institute of Information Technology, Bengaluru.

Dr. Archana Pillai
Dr. Archana Pillai is a resident mentor at NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore for social enterprises in impact assessment. She also helps design social impact metrics for social start-ups. She has served as a senior project scientist at IIT Kanpur and also in the area of social audits. She has been the director of Social Impact Advisory for The Social Audit Network India. She has been the director for GrassRootsU India and director of practice for Virtue Ventures in India. She received her PhD in Philosophy from ICFAI University, Dehradun.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Manipal Technologies

Manipal Technologies conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive on 12th Nov' 19, for the Electronics & Communication and Mechanical Engineering students of 2020 outgoing batch. The process began with a pre-placement talk, followed by written test and interviews.

A total of 353 students from pool colleges attended the recruitment process. Nine Sahyadrians were selected for the designation of graduate trainee engineer. Out of these, 8 are from Mechanical Engineering and one is from Electronics & Communication Engineering,

Prof. Srinivas P M is currently working in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. He obtained his B.E degree from Kalpatru College of Engineering,Tipturu and M.Tech degree from GSSIT, Bengaluru. He has 9 years of teaching experience. He has published 2 articles in national and international journals. His research interests are Image Processing, Blockchain and Programming Languages. He was awarded first prize in the National Conference ETET-2014 at Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bengaluru for presenting the Paper titled “Efficient Social Video Sharing in Mobile Traffic on WWW by using Clouds”.

• Kalpitha Shetty is form Mangluru. She pursued her schooling at Raj Academy School, and PUC at Vikas Pre University College, Mary Hill. Her hobbies include listening to music, playing volleyball and learning new concepts. She is interested to work in the research field of cyber security.
• Anvitha S D is from Mangaluru. She pursued her schooling at Shri Ramakunjeshwara High School and PUC at Shri Ramakunjeshwara PU College. Her hobbies are acting, drawing and speech. She is interested to work in SAP.
• Ashay H Sooda is from Puttur. He pursued his schooling at Mount Carmel School and PUC at Sharada PU College. His hobbies include music, football. He wishes to pursue higher studies in MS, and work in research field of artificial intelligence.
• Sushaanth is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling at Yenepoya School and PUC at Sharada Vidyanikethan College. His hobbies are playing keyboard and listening to music. He wishes to pursue higher studies MS in aeronautics. He wants to start an aeronautical company.

• Arjun R Shetty is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling at Vidya Rathna English School and PUC at Sharada PU College. His hobbies include playing outdoor sports. He is interested in coding. He aspires to become a software /web developer in companies like Microsoft and Google.
