Inauguration of STAISE for the Academic Year 2019-20

The inauguration of Students Association of Information Science & Engineering (STAISE) of the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering was held on 23rd Oct’19. The chief guests for the programme were alumni Mr. Chethak Kulal & Mr. Lenson Roy Saldahna.

Mr. Chethak Kulal is an Associate Director in the Kannada Film Industry. He is the co-founder of Axemen's Films Ad Company in Mangaluru. He started his career as an Assistant Director of Blockbuster movie “Ondu Motteya Kathe”. Later, he also worked in another blockbuster movie “Sarakari Hiriya Praathamika Shaale Kasaragodu” which won National Award. He has worked in six movies so far.

Mr. Kulal addressed the gathering and urged the students to pursue their passion and work hard to realise the gains. Be patient, to reap the benefits of your hard work and dedication, he said.

Mr. Lenson Roy Saldanha is one of the Directors of Axndx Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a Private incorporated company in Mangaluru. Axndx is involved in software publishing, consultancy and supply.

In his address, Mr. Saldanha encouraged the gathering to aim high and think of the bigger picture. So, put in your best effort and work hard to attain it, he urged. He also shared his experiences of those days of struggle, in his career as an entrepreneur.

Dr. Shamanth Rai, Head, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering, welcomed the Second Year students into the Department and also wished them a Happy Learning.

Ms. Jayapadmini Kanchan, Faculty Co-ordinator, STAISE; Ms. Sapna Goad, Vice-President and Mr. Shamanth Raj, Secretary also graced the occasion.

In the noon, the students exhibited their talents by performing at various cultural events that were organized.

Long Jump - Mohammed Zaheer won First Place and Jackson Fidel Pereira won Second Place

4x100 Relay - Women’s team comprising of Manisha A., Anvitha Shetty, Deeksha P. & Vaishnavi D.K. won First Place. Men’s team comprising of Mohammed Zaheer, Jackson Fidel Pereira, Aman H.A. & Sathwick C. Rai won second place.

ITC Infotech conducts a Training Programme

ITC Infotech held an interactive session on 24th Oct'19, with selected students on how to use their new platform 'Prarambh'. The students were briefed about how the platform would help them in learning and preparing themselves prior to joining the company.

Mentor-Mentee System at Sahyadri

Department: Information Science & Engineering Introduction of the Mentor:
Mr. Prakhyath Rai is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science & Engineering. He has pursued B.E. from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru and MTech. from NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. from VTU, Belagavi. He has a total of 4.5 years of teaching experience. His research areas include Text Mining, Knowledge Distillation, Text Denoising, Text Refinement, Data Analytics and Visualization, etc. He has published various research articles in reputed journals.

Introduction of the Mentees:
• Shrinidhi Bharadhwaj K.S. is from Kasaragod. He pursued his SSLC from Vittal Jaycees English Medium School and PUC from Ambika PU College, Puttur. He is interested in compiler designing and ethical hacking. His hobbies are photography and going for long drive. He has won coding competition called “code chef” during his PU program. He aspires to be a technically sound developer in IT firm.
• Aiyappa M.N. is from Kodagu. He pursued his SSLC from Shree Raja Rajeshwari School, Madikeri and PUC from Sharadha PU College, Mangaluru. He likes to spend most of his leisure time listening to music. He secured second place in Science Model Making competition organized at NITK, Surathkal and has won several prizes in Science Modelling. He aspires to be a software solution architect.
• Sharvari is from Shivamogga. She pursued her SSLC in Vagdevi School, Shivamogga and PUC from St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are painting and watching movies. She aspires to work with Intel.
• K. Chaitra N. Prabhu is from Mangaluru. She pursued her SSLC from Canara Girls High School and PUC from Canara PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are reading books and listening to music. Her ambition is to become a lead developer in IT.
• Anusha D. is from Mangaluru. She pursued her SSLC and PUC from Lourdes Central School, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are dancing, reading books and playing basketball. She aims to work for leading sectors of IT.
• Manya K.M. is from Chikmangaluru. She pursued her SSLC from St. Norbert (CBSE) and PUC from Mahesh PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are reading novels and dancing. She aims to become a developer at a leading IT company.
• Krithika Alva is from Mangaluru. She pursued her SSLC from St Agnes High School and PUC from Dr. NSAM PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are listening to music, singing, and playing games. Her ambition is to get placed in IT sector.
