Computer Legends Of the Unified Department @Sahyadri
CLOUDS-Student Association Inauguration 2019-20
Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering inaugurated the activities of Computer Legends of Unified Department @Sahyadri (CLOUDS) for the Academic Year 2019-20. He delivered the inaugural speech and welcomed the young minds that have chosen CS as their field of interest into the department. Prof. Sudheer Shetty Dean-Examination addressed the students and spoke about the importance of National Board of Accreditation.
Prof. Shailesh Shetty S, Staff Coordinator, Mr. Darshan Shetty, Vice-President-CLOUDS and Ms Anvitha Rai, General Secretary-CLOUDS were present on the occasion. Academic Toppers were felicitated at the event.
The formal function was followed by cultural events from staff and students. Variety Competition was conducted and students from various semesters showcased their talents through wonderful cultural performances among which students of 5th semester ‘B’ section emerged as winners and students of 5th semester ‘C’ were runners- up.

ARPAN 2020
On behalf of Computer Legends of the Unified Department at Sahyadri(CLOUDS), the student faculty association of the department of Computer Science &Engineering,an event “ARPAN-2K19” was conducted. Forty plus events were conducted with a view to raise funds for donating to orphanages in and around the city.
This fund raising event was stopped at the middle due to covid-19 pandemic.

FAREWELL 2020
The Valedictory function for the activities of CLOUDS (Computer Legends Of the Unified Department @ Sahyadri) - an association by the students and faculty members of the department of Computer Science & Engineering, and a farewell for the outgoing students of UG and PG 2020 batch was held online. Dr.Rajesha S , Principal was the Guest of Honour. Dr Pushpalatha K, HOD, Dept. of CSE gave the Presidential address. Annual Report of the club activities was presented by Anvitha Rai, the General Secretary of CLOUDS. . The outgoing students and faculty members shared their experiences at Sahyadri. Staff Coordinator – Mr.Shailesh Shetty and Mr.DarshanShetty,Vice-President CLOUDS and Ms.AnvithaRai,General Secretary CLOUS were present during this occasion. CLOUDS-Student Association Inauguration 2018-19
Ms. Shimna M, Senior System Engineer, Infosys Mangaluru inaugurated the activities of the CLOUDs (Computer Legends Of Unified Department @ Sahyadri) for the academic year 2018-19. Head of Computer Science & Engineering - Dr. J V Gorabal, welcomed the students of second year into the department and delivered the inaugural address. Ms. Shimna quoted an inspiring story of karoly takacs and said - to achieve anything worthy in life one needs attitude and will. She gave an important message to the students that “We need to work towards our goal with complete determination to succeed’’.Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean-Examination addressed the students and stimulated them to maintain consistency in their academic performance.The academic toppers were felicitated by the Chief Guest. The CLOUDS team comprising of Ms. Pooja N S, Staff Coordinator; Mr. Krithesh Bhandary, Vice President and Ms. Souravi, General Secretary, were present on this occasion. The inaugural ceremony was then followed by Cultural activities by students of the department.


Orientation Programme for 2nd Year CSE Students
With the intent of making the students familiar with the department, an Orientation programme for the second year Computer Science & Engineering students was held. The programme began with the inauguration in the presence of Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Prof. Ravichandra R, Dean–Industry Connect; Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean-Examinations and Dr. J V Gorabal, HOD. Principal while giving the inaugural address told the students to maintain consistency in their performance and also asked them to refer to various books other than text books to enhance their knowledge. Further, Dean-Industry Connect emphasized the importance on industry connect courses. Dean-Examination stressed on the importance of attendance and also advised them to maintain good health. Dr. Gorabal welcomed the students to the branch and gave the glimpse of the Computer Science Department.


Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering organized a Technical Talk on Distributed Computing


A technical talk on Distributed computing was organized by Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering for the students of fifth and third semester. Mr. DeerajVijaya, Senior Software Developer, Siemens Technology and an esteemed alumnus of Sahyadri was the resource person. He briefed about cloud computing, types of cloud computing, edge computing and also spoke about importance of JavaScript.
Sahyadri holds One Day Training on Blockchain
One-day Training on Blockchain organized by K-Tech Innovation Hub (NAIN), Govt. of Karnataka was held at the campus in association with Department of Computer Science & Engineering, DTILABZ Pvt. Ltd., Aptra Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and Sahyadri Centre for Cloud Computing and Cyber Security (S4CS).Mr. Koshikraj, Blockchain advisor at UNITESERVE was the resource person. Mr. Koshikraj started working for a security firm during and after completing his masters’ degree from Manipal University. While there, he worked closely in the DevOps team for over a year. RSA gave him a lot of exposure to the security industry. Later, he started working as a senior software engineer in a startup called CoWrks where he gained a lot of exposure as a full-stack developer and in managing the team. After CoWrks, he devoted all his time to research on Blockchain. Mr Koshik Raj is an alumnus of Sahaydri. The training program started with a formal inauguration. Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, Dr. Rajesha S., Dean (Academics), Dr. J.V. Gorabal, HoD, Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), faculties of CSE and ISE were present. The training program was divided into two sessions. The first session focused on theoretical aspects of Blockchain and Algorithm associated with Blockchain. Second, was a practical session fully focused on Smart Contract and Ethereum. Nearly 40 students participated, who were truly benefited by this training program.



A workshop on "Big Data Analytics using Hadoop"


A workshop on "Big Data Analytics using Hadoop" was conducted by the Dept. of computer Science and Engineering. The resource person of the workshop was Prof. Manjunath Mulimani, Research Scholar, NITK Surathkal. He gave an introduction to Big Data Analytics and conducted hands-on session on “MapReduce Programming for Big Data Analytics using Python”. He also discussed the topics such as application of big data, future scope of big data, MapReduce and Data Transformation, MapReduce Programming Model, Workflow of MapReduce, Running MapReduce Job and Hadoop versions. Final year students of computer science and engineering participated in the workshop
Workshop on “Research Paper Publication” by Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering organized a workshop on “Research Paper Publication and its importance” for final year students. The first session was facilitated by Prof. Bharath Bhushan, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering in which he emphasized on skills needed to write a Research Paper for reputed indexed journals. He also gave information about the standards of various journals and conferences. This was followed by hands-on session on Paper and Report writing skills using Latex by Dr. Pushpalatha K, Dept of Computer Science & Engineering. LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system which includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation.
Department of Computer Science & Engineering conducts technical talks


Department of Computer Science & Engineering in association with CLOUDS, organized technical talks on “Security Challenges in Computer Architecture: Spectre and Meltdown” and “Recent Research Trends”. The first talk was delivered by Dr. Basavaraj Talawar, Assistant Professor, CSE department NITK. He gave brief explanation about the computer architecture and spectre and meltdown vulnerabilities in modern processors.
The second technical talk was delivered by Dr. Kiran M, Assistant Professor, IT Department NITK. He spoke about Blockchain and gave a brief introduction about its working and the applications. He also discussed the various innovations and research opportunities in Blockchain. The talks were very informative and were well accepted.

Department of CSE organized “ARPAN-2K19”
On behalf of Computer Legends of the Unified Department at Sahyadri(CLOUDS), the student faculty association of the department of Computer Science & Engineering,an event “ARPAN-2K19” was conducted. Forty plus events were conducted with a view to raise funds for donating to orphanages in and around the city. Ms. Pavithree B Shetty,alumna of CSE who secured 1st rank in VTU with 4 gold medals was chief guest of this prestigious event. While addressing the gathering she stressed that one should be passionate about their dreams to achive it. She also emphasize that we can make most prominent hights of success by focusing towards our goals. Dr J V Gorabal, HoD, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) in his presidential address appreciated the efforts of CLOUDS and the support of all the faculty members and students in raising the funds. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean-Examination addressed the students. The CLOUDS team comprising of Mr. Krithesh Bhandary, Vice President, Ms. Pooja N S, Staff Coordinator and Ms. Souravi, General Secretary, were present on this occasion. Dept. of Computer Science Engineering felicitates Ms. Pavithree B Shetty
Ms. Pavithree B Shetty, an alumna of Sahyadri, First Rank holder in Computer Science and Engineering and the beneficiary of 4 Gold Medals from VTU was congratulated for her extraordinary accomplishment in academics. Dean Examination- Prof Sudheer Shetty and Dr. J V Gorabal, HOD, CSE felicitated her for the outstanding achievement. She was one the best outgoing students of CS Department during her course of engineering at Sahyadri. She got placed in Moonraft Innovation Labs with a package of Rs 8 lakhs per annum.

CLOUDS 2017 – 18

Ms. Sneha Shashidharan, Software Engineer, Lowe’s India Pvt Ltd inaugurated the activities of the CLOUDs (Computer Legends Of Unified Department @ Sahyadri) for the academic year 2017-18.
In her inaugural address she highlighted the importance of professional skills and expectations from the industry. The academic toppers were felicitated by the chief guest. There was a release of CLOUDS theme song and students made a website where there was live telecast of the event. Formal event was followed by cultural programme.

CLOUDS, the student association for the academic year 2016-17 was inaugurated by Mr. Karthik Bhat, Software Engineer at the UniCourt Inc. in the presence of Professor Sudheer Shetty, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Prof. Sudheer Shetty welcomed the gathering and delivered the inaugural address.
Mr. Karthik Bhat stated the importance of learning programming languages and its need in our day to day life. He said, it is very essential in the present era to be well versed with technology. He encouraged the students to take up Mini projects.
The inaugural ceremony was then followed by Cultural activities by students of the department. Ms. Mamatha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & engineering coordinated the entire event.

Mr. Sudheer Shetty, HoD and the President of CLOUDS, welcomed the Chief Guest, the staff and the second year students of the department. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, the Principal, in his presidential address, appreciated the association for all its efforts. Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academic was present during the function. Ms. Kirthi Prasad, General Secretary of the Association, gave an overview of the activities of the Association for the year 2013-14 and the activities planned for the current academic year.
On the occasion, Dr. Antony P. J., the Chief Guest, delivered a technical talk on, “Natural Language Processing." He shared his immense knowledge about Linguistic Computation and its Applications. He gave a glimpse of the scope and advancements in this field.
The staff co-ordinator, Mrs. Mehanaz Begum, read out the names of the VTU toppers of all semesters of CSE and M.Tech.(CSE) and they were honored on this occasion with a certificate and a gift voucher by the Chief Guest. Mr. Gautham J. Shetty, the Vice-President of CLOUDS, proposed the Vote of Thanks. Mr. Sachin Ganesh, Semester V and Mr. Pratheek Shetty, Semester III were felicitated for the preparation of the association logo and the theme song, respectively. On the occasion, the new CLOUD app was introduced to all.

Various activities for the academic year 2013-14 of TOXICS-Technically Outstanding experts of Information and Computer Science and Engineering - a Student Association of the Department of Computer Science Engineering & Information Science & Engineering was inaugurated by Mr. Sudheer Pakkala, Software Test Manager, Timken Engineering Research India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.
Mr. Sudheer Shetty, HoD of CSE and the President of TOXICS, welcomed the Chief Guest, the staff, and the second year students of CSE and ISE. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, the Principal, in his presidential address said that the association must help the students in developing their skills and this should lead to the overall development of their personality. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean-Academics was present during the function. Dr. Manu A. P., HoD of ISE and the advisor of TOXICS, gave motivational guidelines to the students and wished them the best in the coming events to be conducted by TOXICS. The General Secretary, Mr. Gautham J. Shetty, gave an overview of the Association activities of the year 2012-13 and the activities planned for the current academic year. The HoDs of various departments were present on the occasion.

Dr. U. B. Pavanaja, the chief guest, addressed the gathering and shared his immense knowledge. He delivered a technical talk on “Software Internationalization/Localization." He spoke about the necessity of localization and globalization of the languages. He gave a glimpse of the scope and advancements in this field.
