Innovation Outreach Program by Dept. of Electronics, IT & BT at Sahyadri

One-day state-wide ‘Information Dissemination Outreach’ by the Dept. of Electronics, IT & BT, Govt. of Karnataka was inaugurated by Principal, Dr. S S Injaganeri; Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA and Ms. Aishwarya, Incubation Manager of Shine Foundation at Sahyadri on 20th June 2025.
The session by Mr. Abhinav Reddy, Assistant Manager, KITS and Mr. Shubham R, Technical Executive, KITS was conducted to raise awareness among students and aspiring entrepreneurs about Karnataka’s progressive policies in innovation, biotechnology, and electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM). The session focused on how the state is fostering a start-up-friendly environment through dedicated infrastructure, incentives, and skill development initiatives. Karnataka’s biotechnology policy, built on key pillars such as research, innovation, skill training, and infrastructure, was explained in detail. The session emphasized how world-class biotech hubs and government-supported parks are enabling innovation, while initiatives like Nipuna Karnataka are helping bridge the gap between academia and industry.

The state’s strong position in the ESDM sector was also discussed, where Karnataka ranks second in India. The policy includes two streams—one for start-ups and another for large-scale manufacturing—with specific processes to gain incentives and special support. Students were introduced to the benefits of these policies and how they can be part of this ecosystem.
Awareness was also raised about the IT Policy (2020–2025), GCC policy, and cybersecurity policy, which aim to promote R&D, internships, and start-ups. Karnataka’s data centre policy and vision for space technology were briefly covered, highlighting emerging opportunities for youth.

The session concluded with insights into Start-up Karnataka, ArtPark, and how Bengaluru is now the fourth largest tech cluster in the world. Students were encouraged to explore resources and the roadmap available on the official website of the Department of Electronics, IT, and Bt.
The program was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where students’ doubts were addressed, and further guidance was provided on how they can engage with the state’s innovation and start-up ecosystem.
