The event unfolded with an insightful Pre-placement talk, offering students a deep dive into the organization’s vision, career growth potential, and cutting-edge training approach. This was followed by a rigorous Aptitude test, designed to assess technical acumen and problem-solving abilities, and culminated in a comprehensive HR interview round that evaluated soft skills, cultural fit, and personal motivation.
With an impressive turnout, 194 bright and ambitious candidates from across disciplines vied for a place in this coveted opportunity. Ultimately, 29 talented students from Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Robotics & Automation proudly emerged as successful candidates, receiving official offers to embark on their journey with QSpiders.

Dept. of ECE launches Competitive Examination Club to guide aspirants

Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) announced the launch of its new Competitive Examination Club, aimed at guiding students toward success in competitive exams and prestigious careers.
The idea for this initiative emerged when Dr. Anush Bekal, Head of the ECE Department, was inspired by a LinkedIn post from Ms. Reshma Bhagat, who achieved a remarkable All-India Rank in the GATE exam for ECE in 2022, eventually earning a place at IIT Kharagpur. Her story of overcoming challenges resonated deeply with Dr. Bekal, leading to a conversation about the need for better exposure to competitive exams for students in tier 2 cities like Mangaluru.

Ms. Bhagat, alongside her former classmate and fellow IIT Kharagpur alumnus, Mr. Prabhat Kumar, agreed to support the initiative. Within weeks, both were welcomed at the college as chief guests for Abhyudaya 2024, where they shared valuable insights with second- and third-year students. Their sessions covered strategies for competitive exam preparation, motivations for pursuing higher education at IITs, NITs, and IIITs, and pathways into esteemed public sector roles like IAS, IPS, and IES.

With the formal launch of the Competitive Examination Club, Mr. Prabhat and Ms. Bhagat have committed to mentoring ECE students, offering regular online guidance, mock test monitoring, and personalized preparation strategies. Their industry experience will provide students with a strong foundation as they prepare for challenging exams and promising careers in academia and public service.
This club, born from a chance encounter, now stands as a dedicated resource to foster ambition and success among aspiring candidates at Sahyadri.

SOSC attends October-2024 FOSS Meetup

The monthly Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) meetup held at Manipal Dot Net Private Limited on 27th October 2024 brought together a vibrant community of open-source enthusiasts and contributors, eager to share their projects and insights. This event provided a collaborative environment where participants could discuss the latest trends, tools, and technologies in the open-source world. Members of the Sahyadri Open-Source Community (SOSC) actively participated, bringing fresh energy and insight.
The line-up included engaging talks on topics like open-source cloud stacks, WAN aggregation, and innovative development tools, sparking curiosity and offering practical takeaways for real-world projects. One of the event's highlights was a talk by Deveesh Shetty, former president of SOSC, who captivated the audience by sharing essential DevTool tips every developer should know, covering consoles, networks, layouts, and more. Deveesh’s insights included perfect tricks to boost productivity and efficiency, resonating strongly with both newcomers and experienced developers alike. He walked participants through practical examples, demonstrating how each tool could streamline workflows and simplify debugging processes, ultimately improving the development experience.
Overall, the meetup celebrated the collaborative spirit of FOSS, inspiring attendees to deepen their contributions to the open-source ecosystem.
