SOSC Organized Tech Week Day 5: A Hands-On Go & GoFr Workshop

The concluding day of Tech Week, organized by the Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, commenced with a formal inauguration ceremony in the presence of esteemed dignitaries. The event was graced by Principal Dr. S. S. Injaganeri; Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and SOSC Faculty Coordinator Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi; Head of the Department of Basic Science and Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Prashanth Rao; SOSC Organizer Mr. Amrithraj N, and Ms. Divya Darshana, Open-Source Contributor at GoFr and Intern at Zopsmart, who was also the speaker for the day. Each of them shared insightful and encouraging words, enlightening the students on the importance of continuous learning, innovation, and participation in open-source initiatives. Their presence and guidance laid the foundation for an engaging and impactful conclusion to the final day of the event.

Following the inauguration, a comprehensive and hands-on workshop titled “Go & GoFr” was conducted by Ms. Divya Darshana. The session introduced students to the fundamentals of the Go programming language, covering its data types, and progressed into building REST APIs using the GoFr framework. Key backend development topics such as observability (logs and traces), middleware (including HTTP authentication, API keys, and OAuth using JWT tokens), custom validation functions, circuit breakers, health checks, and default headers were explored. Attendees also gained insights into working with Swagger UI, developing CLI applications, understanding publish-subscribe patterns, implementing WebSockets, and performing basic file storage operations such as reading, writing, and integrating with storage buckets. The session offered students meaningful hands-on experience, marking a fitting and impactful conclusion to Tech Week.

Sahyadri (Dept. of ECE) secures its first Patent for ‘System and Method for Location Determination’

Sahyadri has achieved a historic milestone with the grant of its first-ever patent titled "System and Method for Location Determination". The Indian Patent Office officially granted the patent on February 28, 2025, under Patent No. 561631 (Indian Application No. 201841048617).
This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort between the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and RDL Technologies Pvt Ltd. It marks a significant step forward in the institution’s commitment to research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

The patented invention introduces an Indoor Positioning System (IPS) designed to revolutionize navigation in enclosed and GPS-restricted environments such as large buildings, industrial zones, and underground facilities. With a remarkable accuracy of ±1cm, the system is tailored for real-time location tracking of humanoid robots and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), enabling seamless and efficient movement in automated and human-interactive environments.

As underground infrastructures and smart cities continue to emerge, the need for precise indoor navigation becomes critical. This system addresses that gap, offering a robust and scalable alternative to conventional GPS, which is ineffective in such environments. The technology is expected to find applications in robotics, healthcare logistics, industrial automation, and urban development.

This innovation not only enhances the mobility of automated systems but also facilitates safe and effective collaboration between humans and machines, ushering in a new era of indoor navigation.
