MBA students visited Bola’s Industry, Kedinje, Karkala

As a part of the local industry visit initiative, the 1st year MBA students visited Bola's Industry Kedinje, Karkala on 24th Aug, 2024. This visit aimed to provide the students with practical insights into industry operations. The visit commenced with an informative session led by Mr. Damodar Kamath, the Managing Director of Bola's Industry. He provided a comprehensive overview of the company's operations, emphasizing its retail outlet distribution strategies and export procedures. Mr. Kamath highlighted the significance of quality control and customer satisfaction, which are core to Bola's success in the competitive market. Following the briefing, the students were taken to Bola's manufacturing unit, where they observed about the meticulous process of shelling, peeling, and grading cashews. They also observed the measures taken to maintain hygiene and ensure the high quality of the end product. Similar to cashews, the almond processing unit showcased the various stages, including blanching, grading and packaging. The students were particularly interested in the technology used to maintain the freshness and nutritional value of the nuts. The visit also included a tour of Bola's advanced packaging facilities. Students were briefed on the different packaging techniques employed to preserve the quality of the products during storage and transportation.

Placements and Training: Organic Group Director Mr. Pravir Shetty visited Sahyadri

Mr. Pravir Shetty, Director of Organic Industries Pvt Ltd., Mumbai, visited Sahyadri on 26th Aug, 2024, and had a productive discussion with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman; Principal, Dr. S S Injaganeri; Director and Dean of Placements, Prof. Rashmi Bhandary.

The meeting focused on exploring potential opportunities for internships and recruitment, aimed at fostering collaboration between Organic Industries and the institution.

Associate Dean (R&D) and Students Present Research Paper at IEEE International Conference

Dr. Navaneeth Bhaskar, Associate Dean (R&D) and Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science), along with final-year CSE (Data Science) students Shravya Ganesh, Dhanya Vinay, Leena K I, and Dayana Dsouza, presented a research paper titled "Enhancing Digital Crime Investigation Through Deep Learning-Powered Deepfake Detection" at the 4th ASIANCON IEEE International Conference. The conference was held on August 23rd & 24th, 2024, at Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering & Research (PCCOER), Pune, and was technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Bombay section. The paper will be published in IEEE Xplore and indexed in Scopus.
Derived from their final-year project, the paper proposes an intelligent automated approach utilizing deep learning techniques to detect deepfake images and videos. This work is a significant contribution to ongoing efforts to combat deepfake content and enhance trust in multimedia. The implementation of such models is expected to discourage the creation and dissemination of deepfake media, thereby securing individuals' privacy, maintaining the integrity of digital content, and preserving the credibility of digital media ecosystems.

Dr. Prabhu interacts with the parents and teacher of Airaa Academy, Bengaluru

Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Centre of Excellence was invited by the Airaa Academy Bengaluru to interact with their parents and teachers to sensitize them regarding the new generation Cyber-crimes.
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G gave an insightful overview of 15 critical cybercrimes that parents of school children need to be aware of, including cyberbullying, online predators, and phishing scams. He mentioned about the growing concerns of sexting, identity theft, and cyberstalking, highlighting the dangers of online grooming and exposure to inappropriate content. The talk covered risks associated with online gaming, social media challenges, catfishing, and the spread of fake news. Additionally, Dr. Prabhu discussed the importance of safeguarding against unauthorized purchases, malware, and cyber extortion, empowering parents with the knowledge to protect their children in the digital age.
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G also emphasized the importance of proactive parental involvement in monitoring and guiding children's online activities. He explored practical strategies for safeguarding against these cyber threats, including setting up parental controls, educating children about the risks of sharing personal information, and fostering open communication about their digital experiences. The talk also highlighted the significance of staying informed about emerging cyber risks and the role of parents in teaching responsible digital citizenship. By equipping parents with the necessary tools and knowledge, Dr. Prabhu aimed to create a safer online environment for children, ensuring their well-being in an increasingly connected world.

ECE faculty attended a Two-Day FDP on ‘Design Flow using PynqZ2 and Analog IC Design Flow’

Faculty members Prof. Babitha and Prof. Kripa, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) participated in an intensive two-day FDP on ‘Design Flow using PynqZ2 and Analog IC Design Flow’ hosted by the Electronics & Communication Engineering Department of St. Joseph Engineering College.

The workshop was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of both digital and analog IC design, with a particular focus on mastering FPGA design using the Pynq-Z2 board and exploring custom analog IC methodologies. The event drew attendees from various institutions, all eager to expand their knowledge and gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art techniques in the field.
