Synergia 2024 – Innovation, Knowledge, and Collaboration in Action

Day Two

Sahyadri inaugurated Synergia 2024, its annual innovation and entrepreneurship event, with a vibrant cultural ceremony. The event promotes collaboration among students, faculty, and industry experts, providing hands-on learning and real-world insights. Notable guests, including Mr. Manjunath Bhandary (Chairman, Sahyadri), Mr. Rahul V. Karad (Founder, MIT WPU), Dr. Aditi Karad (Executive Director, Vishwaraj Hospital, Pune), Mr. Sumith Chauhan (VP, CSR, Mphasis Foundation), and Mr. Bheema Prakash Adkasthala (Head of Service, Ericsson India), lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the opening.
Synergia's Project Phase allowed students to engage in a hands-on journey, developing solutions to real-world challenges under the guidance of industry and academic mentors. Distinguished judges provided valuable feedback, inspiring students to refine their prototypes.
The event featured DevTalks led by industry experts, covering adaptability in a VUCA world, practical roles in AI, advancements in computational architecture, and machine learning’s impact on data interpretation. Noteworthy speakers included Bheema Prakash Adkasthala from Ericsson, Srikanth Shenoy (Co-Founder, Coachbuddy), Suhas Kudlur Viswanath (Arithmic Labs), and Esther Raina Monteiro (CodeCraft Technologies).

Masterclasses included "Fundamentals of Image Processing" by Mr. Pranav Durai (Research Fellow, Stanford) and "Ethical Hacking 101" by Samrath Sudesh Acharya (Cybersecurity Analyst, KPMG), offering practical training aligned with Synergia’s goals of skill-building and innovation.
Day two highlights began with a yoga session by Dr. Gurusiddayya Hiremath and an innovation session by Mrs. Rufsina A. (Assistant Professor, CSE-AIML). Dr. Prashant Rao, Head of Basic Sciences, emphasized math’s importance for logical reasoning and problem-solving. Competitive events such as CSS Action (UI Battles), CodeForge (Competitive Programming), Bit Breaker (Capture the Flag), and TechPitch provided students with a platform to showcase technical skills and creativity.
Campus tours included Sahyadri’s Launchpad and innovation labs, where guests like Mr. Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Dr. Aditi Karad, Sumith Chauhan, Rita Francis (CSR Manager, Mphasis), and Santhosh Rodrigues (Managing Director, Wynne and Marvin Consulting) engaged in discussions with faculty on leadership and academia.
The final day will feature the Line Follower competition, Hackathon Judging, and Project Display, concluding with a panel discussion and valedictory ceremony to celebrate Synergia's success in fostering creativity, learning, and innovation.

Advanced Automation Skills at NITK Siemens Center of Excellence

Dr. Anush Bekal, Head of the Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) Department, recently visited the Siemens Center of Excellence (CoE) in Digital Manufacturing at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK). During the visit, Dr. Bekal had the opportunity to explore the center’s advanced Automation Lab, which plays a crucial role in the development of Industry 4.0 technologies.

The Automation Lab equips students with hands-on experience in Ladder Logic programming, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)—skills that are crucial for fully automating industrial plants. Its high-level functional distribution allows students to implement advanced control strategies and understand the thought process behind complex automation philosophies.

Key Objectives of the Automation Lab:

• Identify the automation requirements in process plants.

• Develop and implement control schemes using Ladder Logic programming.

• Troubleshoot programs for reliable plant operations.

• Innovate new technologies tailored to Industry 4.0 applications.

• Enhance employability by preparing students for the evolving demands of the automation industry.

By providing real-world experience, the Automation Lab enhances employability for students stepping into the automation industry. Dr. Bekal’s visit highlighted the importance of such industry-relevant training, which he hopes to integrate into the curriculum at Sahyadri, further empowering students in the field of automation.
