Chairman of KEONICS and Hon'ble MLA, GoK Shri Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda Visits Sahyadri, Applauds Advanced Skill Development Initiatives

Sahyadri had the honour of hosting Shri Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda, Chairman of KEONICS and Hon'ble Member of the Legislative Assembly, Government of Karnataka, on 8th March 2024. His visit showcased the institution’s cutting-edge skill development and incubation facilities, reinforcing Sahyadri’s commitment to fostering innovation and industry-academia collaboration.
Shri Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda was accompanied by Mr. Nishchith VD, Director of KEONICS, Mr. Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament, and Mr. Bharath Shetty, MLA. The distinguished guests were welcomed by Mr. Manjunath Bhandari, Chairman of Sahyadri; Principal Dr. S S Injaganeri and Mr. Johnson Tellis, CEO, who led them through the campus, highlighting the pioneering initiatives and engaging them in meaningful discussions with start-ups, young entrepreneurs, and the dynamic Launchpad students.

Impressed by Sahyadri’s ecosystem of innovation, Shri Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda highly appreciated the state-of-the-art skill development facilities available to students. The interactions with budding entrepreneurs and innovators were insightful and inspiring, encouraging students to push the boundaries of technological advancements.
His visit reaffirmed the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry, setting the stage for enhanced collaborations, mentorship opportunities, and entrepreneurial growth at Sahyadri.

Five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’

Inauguration of the five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ from March 24 to 28, 2025 supported by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India was held on 24th March 2025. Sahyadri is among the 50 institutions selected to host this prestigious program and has received ₹3.5 lakhs in funding from the Government of India to facilitate the FDP.
The inaugural function was graced by the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Subray R. Hegde, Professor, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering & Director, Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (STEP), NITK Surathkal; Sam Jai Kumar, AICTE Observer, along with Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director -R&D and Consultancy; Mr. Johnson Tellis, CEO; Dr. Anush Bekal, HoD, ECE Department and Prof. Harisha, Convener, IIC.

Session 1: Evangelizing Entrepreneurship Among Students
The first session was conducted by Shri Shreekanth K. Arimanithaya, Entrepreneur in Residence and CHRO at Machani Group. His talk focused on achieving 10x growth through exponential thinking.

• Understanding student-related problems in entrepreneurship.
• Navigating the long journey of market adaptation.
• Helping students tackle the right problems and guiding them toward innovative solutions.
• The qualification of problems in the entrepreneurial journey. • Inspiring success stories that demonstrated problem-solving as a core business strategy.

Afternoon Sessions
In the afternoon session, Sam Jai Kumar, AICTE Observer, spoke to the participants about the MIC Incentives, providing valuable insights into opportunities and benefits available for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
Session 3: Creative Thinking and Ideation
The final session of the day was conducted by Mr. Gautham Nayak, Co-Founder of Inunity on ‘Creative Thinking and Ideation’. This was a highly interactive and activity-based session that encouraged participants to explore innovative ways of thinking and problem-solving.

Day 2 (25th March 2025)

Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ is being conducted from March 24 to 28, 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India. As part of this initiative, an insightful session took place on March 25, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Session 1: Customer Discovery by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor at SCEM and Executive Director of ToRSecure Cyber LLP, India
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G provided valuable insights into various aspects of customer discovery, covering Copy Leaks and Humaniser Tools and techniques to identify plagiarism and enhance content originality. Additionally, Dr. Ananth Prabhu G introduced participants to various platforms and tools that aid in customer research and business insights, including Hunter, Whois.com, Zauba.corp, Grabify, Deviceinfo.me, Beambox, CoverYourTracks.eff, and NotionPress.com. The session also covered strategies to enhance online presence and customer engagement through Website optimization, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Newsletters, Reviews and ratings, Referral and loyalty programs.

Session 2: Value Proposition by Dr. Santhosha Rao, CEO of MUTBI, Manipal This session provided a structured approach to how businesses create value for customers. He began by explaining the core concepts of ideas, creation, and innovation, highlighting their importance in entrepreneurship. The session covered essential aspects such as team building, financial management, mindset, research, and patents, guiding participants on navigating these challenges. Dr. Rao also discussed the practical steps of launching and managing a startup, including business registration, technology development, HR policies, financial planning, compliance, and exit strategies. He outlined three crucial stages for a successful business model: Problem-Solution Fit (ensuring the idea addresses a real problem), Product-Market Fit (aligning the product with customer needs), and Business Model Fit (developing a sustainable framework).

Session 3: Understanding Lean Startup by Mr. Raghavendra G Shetty, CEO of RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
This session covered key aspects of lean methodology, highlighting major wastes such as defects, overproduction, and waiting, while emphasizing lean thinking principles like implementing minimum requirements at the right time, making measurable predictions, and deploying quality practices. Mr. Raghavendra G Shetty elaborated on lean objectives, including optimizing human creativity and financial resources, and introduced the Lean Canvas framework, which consists of customer segments and top problems, value proposition, solution, path to customers, cost structure, key metrics, unfair advantage, and customer development along with product development.
After the end of three sessions, Dr. Anush Bekal, Head of the ECE Department, guided participants on a visit to the Incubation Centre in the campus, where they had the opportunity to interact with startups and mentors. This visit facilitated the discussions on the problem-solution journey, offering valuable insights into real-world entrepreneurial challenges and innovations.

Day 3 (26th March 2025)

Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ is being conducted from March 24 to 28, 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India. As part of this initiative, an insightful session took place on March 26, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM.
Session 1: Mr. CA Gautham Pai D, Partner at M. Jagannath Kamath & Co. on ‘Finance for Startups’
This session provided an in-depth understanding of the financial aspects critical for entrepreneurial success. The session commenced with a fundamental discussion on what a startup is, emphasizing its dynamic nature and the importance of funding. Mr. Pai elaborated on why funding is required and how it plays a crucial role in various aspects such as, Infrastructure Development, Research & Development (R&D), Resource Acquisition, Operational Management, Prototype Development. Moving forward, he provided an overview of different types of funding available for startups, including, Equity Funding, Grants, Working Capital Loans. Additionally, Mr. Pai explained the key funding mechanisms such as Bootstrapping, Angel Investors, Venture Capital, Government Schemes, Incubators and Accelerators, Crowdfunding, Bank Loans.

Session 2: Mr. Johnson Tellis, Trustee and CEO, Sahyadri on ‘Business Model Canvas (BMC)’
The morning session commenced with an introduction to the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and its significance in entrepreneurship and business strategy. Mr. Johnson Tellis provided an in-depth explanation of the 9 key components of the BMC Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, Cost Structure. Additionally, he emphasized on the importance of customer profiling, product uniqueness, and strategies to develop incubation centres in schools and colleges.
In the afternoon, Mr. Johnson Tellis conducted an interactive hands-on workshop on the Business Model Canvas (BMC). Through practical exercises, the participants evaluated if their models should prioritize internal processes or customer-facing activities. Using real-world examples, the session demonstrated the practical application of the Business Model Canvas. The session concluded with participants refining their models, identifying gaps, and strengthening their value propositions, ensuring a more comprehensive approach to business modelling.

Day 4 (27th March 2025)

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship' is conducted during March 24 to 28, 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India. The program aims to enhance the entrepreneurial mindset and innovation-driven strategies among faculty members across institutions. As part of this initiative, an insightful session took place on March 27, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Session 1: Dr. B. Ravi, Director, National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) on ‘Innovation Ecosystem for Academic Institutes’
During the session Dr. B. Ravi highlighted the key elements essential for encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in educational institutions. Dr. Ravi elaborated on the Product Innovation 4D Framework—Define, Develop, Deliver, and Deploy which provides a structured approach to translating ideas into impactful innovations. He also discussed the various entrepreneurial stakeholders, the process of entrepreneurship scale-up funding, and the critical role of institutional ecosystems and external stakeholders in nurturing a sustainable entrepreneurial environment.
Session 2: Mr. Chethan J Shirnali, an experienced early-stage investor
The second session of the day was led by Mr. Chethan J Shirnali, an experienced early-stage investor, who shared valuable insights on two crucial aspects of entrepreneurship pitching to investors and finding the right co-founder. Mr. Chethan J Shirnali shared insights on presenting business ideas to investors and choosing the right business partner. He explained that investors look for growth potential, a clear plan, and a revenue model. A good pitch should be short and cover the problem, solution, market, and expected earnings. A quick, clear introduction is crucial, and common mistakes include unclear goals and weak scalability. For choosing a co-founder, he emphasized complementary skills, shared vision, honesty, and flexibility.

Session 3: Mr. Gaurav Kamath, CEO, Microdegree on 'Go-to-Market Strategy’
Mr. Gaurav Kamath explained the basics of market strategy, how businesses distribute their products, and different pricing methods. He also discussed marketing and sales in everyday business, sharing tips on attracting customers and keeping them engaged. A key highlight was how social media ads work and how companies make money from them in India.
Session 4: Dr. Abdul Khader, Associate Professor and Retd. Principal (KPT) on 'Leading I&E Activities and Pre-Incubation/Incubation on Campus'
Dr. Abdul Khader started off by explaining who a mentor is. He highlighted the key functions of mentoring, such as motivating, coaching, giving challenging assignments, providing exposure, and offering protection. He emphasized that mentors can be from both industry and academia, with industry mentors offering practical insights and institutional mentors providing structured guidance. The session ended with an interactive quiz, making it engaging and informative for all participants.

Day 5 (28th March 2025)

Session 2: Dr. Manesh Thomas, Chief Executive Officer at Manipal Government of Karnataka Bioincubator Dr. Manesh Thomas, CEO of Manipal Government of Karnataka Bioincubator, led an engaging session on Innovation Management and Action Plan Development. He started by explaining the difference between basic and applied research. Basic research focuses on identifying a topic, reviewing existing studies, forming a hypothesis, conducting experiments, analyzing results, and publishing findings. Applied research follows a similar process but aims to solve real-world problems. He then discussed how innovation moves through three stages: ideation (coming up with ideas), innovation (refining and improving them), and solution implementation (turning ideas into practical applications). He highlighted the importance of a hands-on approach and shared insights into the entrepreneurial journey, including identifying problems, developing solutions, leveraging incubators, and securing funding.
Session 3: Mr. Dheeraj Poojary, BioNEST Technical Manager at Manipal-GoK Bioincubator
The third session of the day was led by Mr. Dheeraj Poojary, BioNEST Technical Manager at Manipal-GoK Bioincubator, on the topic of Sharing Action Plans & Feedback. He explained how to turn ideas into real change by focusing on teamwork, making small improvements, taking responsibility, sharing knowledge, and giving and receiving feedback. He highlighted the importance of action plans in turning ideas into steps that provide clear direction. To make action plans better, he suggested being clear about goals, setting achievable targets, asking for feedback, and focusing on the most important tasks.

The Five-Day Faculty Development Program (FDB) successfully wrapped up with a valedictory ceremony, marking the end of an insightful and engaging series of sessions. Valedictory Ceremony featured Prof. Dr. Anantha Padhmanabha Achar, CEO AIC NITTE Incubation Center, as the Chief Guest. He shared valuable insights on how educators can inspire students to think creatively and develop business ideas through incubation programs.

ECE students contribute to Animal Welfare initiative in Mangaluru

Purvi G Rao and Sahana Gowri P, students from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, actively participated as volunteers in a citywide dog survey conducted by Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) in collaboration with Animal Care Trust (A.C.T) and Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS).
Held from 9th to 13th Feb ‘2025, the survey covered 60 wards in Mangaluru, collecting crucial data to support the rescue and sterilization of stray dogs. Their dedication to data collection and integration into the WVS portal was vital to this impactful initiative. In recognition of their efforts, Shri Ravichandra Naik, MCC Commissioner, awarded them certificates of appreciation for their commendable contribution.

Dept. of CSE organized a Hands-On session on ‘Exploring AI & No-Code with Flutterflow’

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering in collaboration with GDG (Google Developers group) - SCEM chapter organized an insightful Hands-on session on “Innovation Unleashed - Exploring AI & No-Code with Flutterflow” on March 7, 2025. The event featured an engaging session by Mr. Jaison Dias, Cloud Engineer at Niveus Solutions, covering an extensive range of topics spanning across the basics of FlutterFlow, where students explored different features of the no-code platform in a hands-on manner. Students then proceeded to create their first app using FlutterFlow, learning how to integrate authentication into their project using Firebase and scale their application using Gemini API to develop smart and scalable applications. The session was interactive and engaging, and provided students insights into android development, helping them set up a robust foundation in the domain of app development. The event was graced by Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi, Professor & Head of the CSE Department, along with faculty coordinator Prof. Ashwini C S and student coordinators Ms. Shreya Shenoy, Mr. Himanshu Shetty and Mr. M Imaad Iqbal. The session was led by IIC Coordinator, Prof. Prajwal Rao.

CSE Dept. organized a Workshop on ‘Research writing and Funding opportunities’ led by Dr. Abhishek Vaish, IIIT Allahabad (Pragyaraj), UP

On 6th Mar, 2025, a workshop on ‘Research writing and Funding opportunities’ organized by the CSE Dept was inaugurated in the presence of the resource person Dr. Abhishek Vaish, IIIT Allahabad (Pragyaraj), UP; the Principal Dr. S S Injaganeri; HOD-CSE, Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi and Dear-Research Dr. Rathischandra Gatti.
Post the inauguration, Dr. Vaish motivated the faculty members of the vast opportunities in the field of research. He highlighted the importance of faculty collaboration in research and stressed the value of platforms like GitHub for researchers. He also mentioned of the 2024 Touring Award, which was granted to research in reinforcement learning, and elaborated on how machines are tested based on their decision-making capabilities.
Dr. Abhishek also gave a detailed explanation of how research papers are reviewed and accepted for publication. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Vaish expressed his interest to co-author research papers with the faculty members, encouraging collaboration and active participation in the research process. Prof. Harisha, Assistant Dean of Innovation, and Prof. Prajwal Rao, IIC Coordinator of the CSE Department coordinated the workshop.

SOSC Members complete InUnity Projects

Himanshu Shetty and Pratheek G Shetty from 3rd year CSE, along with Koshin Hegde from 2nd year CSE, members of the Sahyadri Open-Source Community (SOSC), successfully delivered projects to InUnity and were rewarded for their contributions. The project involved preparing a comprehensive set of coding questions and implementing a rubric to evaluate skills. It also featured a system to generate a PDF-based report, providing a structured UI for skill assessment. Through their skills and dedication, they transformed ideas into impactful solutions, showcasing the potential of student developers in executing real-world projects and making a difference.

Cleanliness Drive at Sasihithlu Beach

Sahyadri NSS unit in association with Surf Swamy surfing club participated in the Beach Cleaning Drive at Sasihithlu beach on 1st March 2025. It witnessed enthusiastic participation of NSS student volunteers.
The wastes collected during the beach cleaning activities were meticulously sorted into different categories, with a primary focus on recyclable materials. Students separated various types of plastics, including bottles, containers, and packaging materials.
A total of 52 NSS volunteers participated along with Dr. Gurusiddaiah, Dr. Poornima, Prof. Trivikram, Prof. Shwetha Suresh Naik, Ms. Rashmitha G Nishal, Mr. Nikhil Rao. The program was coordinated by Ms. Smitha Shenoy NSS Program Officer.

Five students from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering—Deekshith V Gatty, Deekshith C Achar, Megharsh, Vidya S Kadlibalamath, and Santhosh Kumar—have secured internship positions at RDL Technologies Pvt Ltd.
RDL Technologies Pvt Ltd. is a leading enterprise specializing in IoT products and software solutions. The company is at the forefront of Industrial AI IoT, driving end-to-end digital transformation by integrating Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT).
This internship offers valuable industry exposure, equipping students with hands-on experience in emerging IoT and communication technologies.

Industry-led Five-Day Skill Enhancement Course - ‘Advanced Analytics on Python and SQL’ for MBA’s

Business Toys Pvt Ltd conducted a five-day Advanced ‘Analytics Course on Python and SQL’ for MBA students from 24th to 28th February 2025, building on their foundational knowledge up to predictive modelling. The program focused on practical applications of data analytics in business decision-making.

Students learned advanced SQL techniques such as query optimization, joins, and database management. In Python, they explored data manipulation, visualization, and automation of analytics workflows. The training included hands-on case studies and projects, allowing students to apply their skills to real-world business problems. By the end of the program, students were evaluated through an assessment and feedback has been shared with the department. This course has enabled the MBA students to use data-driven insights for HR, Marketing, and Finance.

Friendly T20 cricket match between NITK and Sahyadri

In a vibrant display of sportsmanship and teamwork, the faculty and staff of Sahyadri and NITK Surathkal came together for a friendly T20 cricket match at the Sahyadri Cricket Ground on 1st March 2025. The event was organized with the objective of fostering collaboration between the two institutions.
The NITK team was led by Dr. Selva Kumar Murugeshan, while the Sahyadri team played under the captaincy of Dr. Prashanth Rao, Dean-Student Welfare Office and HoD-Basic Science. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ramakrishna Devananda, Dept. of Mechanical and Robotics.
The NITK team also visited various in-house start-ups and explored potential academic collaborations between NITK and Sahyadri. Both teams expressed their enthusiasm for making this a regular event further strengthening institutional ties.

ECE Dept. hosts a Workshop on ‘Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Design’

The Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) hosted an engaging workshop on Design Thinking, Critical Thinking, and Innovation Design titled “Logic and Magic: Exploring the Facets of Thinking”. The session was conducted by Dr. Abdul Khader A A, Associate Professor at PA College of Engineering and Former Principal of KPT (Govt.) College.
The interactive workshop was packed with fun activities and thought-provoking discussions, helping participants sharpen their problem-solving, analytical, and creative thinking skills. With hands-on exercises, students explored how logical reasoning and innovative approaches go hand in hand to foster ground-breaking ideas. The event was coordinated by Dr. Chandana B R, and Prof. Mehnaz Fathima C, ensuring an enriching experience for all attendees. Such workshops reinforce the importance of structured thinking and innovation—key skills for aspiring engineers.

International Women’s Day Celebration at Sahyadri

The Women's Cell, in association with the NSS Unit, celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025 in the presence of the dignitaries on the dais included Principal, Dr. S. S. Injaganeri; Chief Guest, Ms. Asha Nayak; Dean Placement & Traning and Trustee, Prof. Rashmi Bhandary; Director MBA and Chairperson of Antisexual Harrasement Cell, Dr. Vishal Samartha; Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Prashanth Rao; Associate Dean Academics, Dr. Priya Kamath; NSS Programme Officer, Mrs. Smitha Shenoy, and Women cell convener Dr. Jyothi Serrao. The event included a special session on “Know Your Rights: Legal Empowerment for Women”, delivered by Ms. Asha Nayak, renowned Senior Defense Lawyer and Women’s Rights Activist.
The program commenced with an invocation by Dr. Bharathi and team. Prof. Roopashree, Dept. of ECE, welcomed the gathering. Principal delivered the presidential address, setting the tone for the occasion. This was followed by insights shared by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, and Dr. Prashanth Rao, who highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment and contributions in various fields.

The Chief Guest, Ms. Asha Nayak, in her impactful session, emphasized the importance of legal education and awareness for women. She empowered the audience with valuable information on legal rights to safeguard women from assault, discrimination, and abuse. During the occasion, Ph.D. awardees of the present academic year, Dr. Sadhana and Dr. Poornima were honoured. Additionally, faculty and staff members who have served the institution for over 15 years were felicitated, recognizing their dedication and contribution. In total, 8 teaching faculty, 15 non-teaching staff, and 3 maintenance staff were honoured during the program. The celebration concluded with the prize distribution for the winners of various games, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Akhila Thejaswi from the Dept. of ISE.
The other Women Cell Committee Members Dr. Sunita D Silva (Dept. of Mathematics); Prof. Sandhyashree Rohit (Dept. of Chemistry), Mrs. Rashmitha (SWO), contributed to the smooth functioning of the programme. Prof. Supreetha Shine served as the Master of ceremonies.

CSE Dept. organized a workshop on ‘Innovation with Git and GitHub’

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering recently organized an engaging workshop on ‘Innovation with Git and GitHub: A Hands-On Workshop’. The session was conducted by Mr. Deveesh Shetty, an intern at Levels.fyi, who shared his expertise on various aspects of version control systems. The workshop was highly interactive, allowing participants to dive deep into Git and GitHub functionalities and understand their real-world applications.
Prof. Aparna Krishnan and Prof. Ramitha T, coordinated the program. Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi, the HoD-Computer Science & Engineering, welcomed the resource person, setting a positive tone for the session. The session was effectively led by the IIC Coordinator, ensuring an enriching learning experience for all attendees. The workshop offered practical insights into version control systems, which are essential skills for anyone pursuing a career in software development. Participants left with a better understanding of how Git and GitHub can enhance collaboration and streamline the development process, making the session both informative and invaluable for future projects.

A group of 43 first-year MBA students, accompanied by Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning, and Dr. Srinath M, COO, had the opportunity to visit Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore as part of their experiential learning program. They witnessed the proceedings of both legislative bodies: the Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and the Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad).
The visit began at the Vidhan Sabha, where the students observed a discussion among State Legislative Assembly members on the newly passed Micro Loan and Small Loan (Prevention of Coercive Actions) Bill 2025. The bill aimed to address the issue of harassment by microfinance institutions and other money lenders, as well as to prevent unlicensed money lenders from engaging in unauthorized lending activities.
Following this, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation and a member of the Legislative Council, engaged with the students and arranged for them to visit the Vidhana Parishad, the upper house. During this visit, the students had the chance to observe the Question Hour, a daily session where Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) pose questions to ministers, who then respond. This session was followed by the Zero Hour, a period at the end of the Question Hour during which members raise urgent public matters.
Later, the students, along with the Chairman, had the privilege of meeting and interacting with the Honourable Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, Mr. U T Khader. He praised the institute for offering students the opportunity to understand the functioning of the State Assembly and State Council. The students also had the chance to meet and interact with various ministers and members of the legislative bodies during the visit. This provided a valuable learning experience for the management students.

Placements and Training: Campus Recruitment Drive by HDB Financial Services

On March 13th, 2025, HDB Financial Services visited Sahyadri to conduct a campus recruitment drive for MBA students from the 2025 outgoing batch, hiring for the position of Management Trainee. The recruitment team, including Suresh Babu (Zonal Manager), Jaideep (Zonal Sales Manager), Sangabeshwara (Zonal Manager), and two other representatives, facilitated the pre-placement talk. They provided an overview of HDB Financial Services, explained the job description, and highlighted the growth opportunities for selected candidates within the company.
Following the talk, the selection process began with a Group Discussion (GD) round. Students were divided into four teams and given various topics to discuss. After filtering, the shortlisted candidates moved on to the Personal Interview round. The results are awaited.

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering recently organized an engaging workshop on ‘Innovation with Git and GitHub: A Hands-On Workshop’. The session was conducted by Mr. Deveesh Shetty, an intern at Levels.fyi, who shared his expertise on various aspects of version control systems. The workshop was highly interactive, allowing participants to dive deep into Git and GitHub functionalities and understand their real-world applications.
Mr. Prajwal Rao, the IIC Coordinator and Dr. Suhas A Bhyratae the course instructor, the Faculty Coordinators, played a pivotal role in organizing the workshop and ensuring its smooth execution. ISE Dept. organized an industry visit to “Varahi Underground Power House Hosangadi, Kundapura”

Dept. of Information Science & Engineering organized a One-Day industrial visit in association with Sahyadri IIC and MINDS on 17th March, 2025. A total of 90 students of 4th semester Information Science & Engineering department visited Varahi Hydro Electric Power Plant owned by Government of Karnataka and operated by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL). The visit enabled the students to gain fundamentals of Hydro Electric Power Generation, Role of Information Technology and IoT in controlling various operations of the power plant from its control room. The students were accompanied by Prof. Pratheek H and Prof. Shwetha Shetty, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering.
Varahi Hydro Power Plant is located near Hosangadi in the Udupi district of Karnataka in India where power generation takes place underground. Students viewed the underground power station which is a type of hydroelectric power station constructed by excavating the major components (e.g., machine hall, penstocks, and tailrace) from rock, rather than the more common surface-based construction methods. They also viewed the Pelton Turbine and Generator of the hydroelectric project that are manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals limited of India.

Sahyadri Athletic Team Clinches Overall Championship for the 8th Time in the VTU inter-collegiate State Level Athletic Championship

The Sahyadri Athletic Team has once again showcased its dominance by emerging as the Overall Champions for the 8th time at the VTU 26th Inter-Collegiate State-Level Athletic Championship, held at JNNCE, Shivamogga, from 15th to 18th March 2025. The team secured a remarkable 104 points, claiming the Men's Section Championship and Women's Section Championship.
Adding to their stellar performance, the team also clinched Second Place in the March Past event. The championship witnessed intense competition, with 1,434 athletes from 126 colleges across the state participating.

ECE student secures Internship at Karmic Design Pvt Ltd

Ajay, a final year student from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been selected as a Verification Intern at Karmic Design Pvt Ltd. This internship offers hands-on experience in Verilog and SystemVerilog, essential for semiconductor chip design and verification.
With this, the 2021-25 ECE batch has achieved 100% internship placements, marking a significant milestone in fostering industry-ready engineers. This milestone reflects the dedication and hard work of students, faculty, and industry partners in shaping future-ready engineers.

ECE Research Paper on Automated Medicine Vending Machine Accepted at ICSIE 2025

Research paper "Design and Development of an Automated Medicine Vending Machine for Instant Healthcare Access" has been accepted for presentation at the 15th International Conference on Science and Innovative Engineering (ICSIE 2025). The conference is scheduled for April 26–27, 2025, at Prince Dr. K. Vasudevan College of Engineering & Technology, Chennai, India.
Authored by the students of the Department of Electronics & Communiction engineering, Kshithij H S, Rakshitha N, SathwikM S, and Thrisha Balan, under the guidance of Prof. Rekha M B, the research introduces an Automated Medicine Vending Machine (AMVM)—a system designed to enhance access to essential medicines and first-aid supplies. The AMVM operates like an ATM, allowing users to obtain drugs through QR-based prescription verification or manual selection, making healthcare more accessible in remote areas, public spaces, and emergencies.
The International Conference on Science and Innovative Engineering is a global platform that brings together researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to discuss the latest advancements in science and engineering.

Research Paper of ECE students accepted for presentation at the International Conference

The research paper titled “Mobility Assistance for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Patients using Eye Gaze Tracking” has been accepted for presentation at the Second International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Science and Engineering (ICETSE) at Akshaya Institute of Technology, TUMKUR DIST.
This research is carried out by Akshay Shet and Srujal Biradar from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) and Khushi Shetty and Vidhisha Shetty from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering under the guidance of Prof. Abhishek A B Nayak (Dept. of ECE) and Prof. Prapulla G (Dept. of CSE).
The paper explores assistive mobility solutions for ALS patients using advanced eye-gaze tracking technology. The paper will be published in the Conference Proceedings with an ISBN and will be indexed by Scopus and Crossref, marking a significant achievement for our researchers and institution.

Dept. of Information Science & CSE (Data Science) organized an insightful workshop titled “Raising Capital & Managing Finance for Start-ups” on 25th March 2025. The event was led by Mr. Shobith Mallya, an esteemed alumnus of the Department of Information Science and CSE (Data Science) and Founding Product Engineer at MantrikaAI, with experience at WeCP, ClearFeed, and Google for Startups. The event was coordinated by Prof. Suchetha G.
The session aimed to educate students about financial strategies essential for start-ups and provide insights into the entrepreneurial journey. Mr. Mallya, an entrepreneur who began his journey as a student, shared his experiences of navigating the start-up ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of financial management, investment strategies, and business growth. He explained key financial concepts such as assets, liabilities, revenue generation, and growth planning, highlighting their crucial role in a start-up’s success. By providing real-world company examples, he made these financial principles more relatable, especially by drawing parallels to the life of Engineering students, demonstrating how strategic decision-making and structured planning are vital both in academics and entrepreneurship.
A key highlight of the session was "The Mantra of Start-up Success", where he shared essential factors for entrepreneurial success: Vision, Value, Risk, Discipline, and Network Potential signifying that the true worth of a start-up is derived from how well it translates its vision into meaningful impact. The workshop provided students with valuable knowledge on managing finances for start-ups, leaving them with a deeper understanding of start-up finance and an enriched entrepreneurial mindset.

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning), in collaboration with Sahyadri-IIC, the IEI-AIML Student Chapter, ISTE, and the IEEE Student Chapter, organized an online Technical Talk on “Innovation in Machine Learning Designer using Microsoft Azure” on March 26th, 2025. This session was conducted online and featured Mr. Pranoy Tez Boddu, a Software Engineer (2) at Microsoft, as the distinguished resource person. He shared his expertise on Microsoft Azure and Machine Learning Designer, emphasizing the role of structured methodologies in fostering innovation. He highlighted the integration of design thinking into academic and professional settings to enhance AI-driven solutions. Additionally, he discussed how Azure Machine Learning Designer streamlines machine learning workflows, automates model training and deployment, and accelerates AI adoption, making data-driven decision-making more efficient.

CSE students' Paper Presentation at CML 2025

A research paper titled "Vitamin Deficiency Detection Using Image Processing," authored by final-year CSE students Sushma Y, Swathi Sudhakar Devadiga, Veekshitha, and Ayeshath Hafeeza, under the guidance of Prof. Chaithra S, Department of CSE, was presented at the 2nd International Conference on Computing and Machine Learning (CML 2025), held at Sikkim Manipal University.
The study aims to provide a non-invasive, quick, and accessible method for detecting vitamin deficiencies, encouraging individuals to seek timely medical intervention and adopt necessary dietary or lifestyle modifications. This work contributes to preventive healthcare, promoting early diagnosis and better health management.

Chairman’s Interaction Session with Engineering Students

On March 28th, 2025 Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary conducted an engaging interaction session with first-year engineering students, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 185 students. During the session, he shared valuable insights on the importance of building a strong foundation, embracing innovation, and developing essential skills for future success. Emphasizing that engineering is not just about marks but about learning to lead life, acquiring skills, and upholding values, he remarked, “Engineering is not just about marks; it’s about learning to lead life, inheriting skills, and values that shape your future.”
The Chairman highlighted the significance of perseverance, self-awareness, discipline, and the right mindset in achieving one’s goals. Encouraging students to adopt positive habits, he advised, “Greet your friends and faculty with a warm smile on all occasions. Have the right dress code—dress appropriately for every occasion.” He urged students to be attentive, responsible, and proactive in their academic and personal growth while making full use of the institution’s extensive facilities, including skill development centers, placement training programs, and other resources.

CSE Dept. Organizes Parent Teacher Meeting for the 2023 engineering batch

A Parent-Teacher meeting for the parents of 2023 batch engineering students to strengthen the bridge between home and college, and to foster a collaborative environment focusing on the overall development of the student was organized by the department. Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi, Professor & Head of the department in his introductory remarks welcomed the parents and gave an insight about the department. He invited the parents for the collective collaboration with the department for student’s overall development.
Dr. S S Injaganeri, Principal briefed the parents about the institute, its activities and about the curriculum and guided the parents in shaping students’ future.
In the interactive session, Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, Trustee and Dean Placement addressed the parents about the importance of academic proficiency and the effective communication skills to get them placed in any company. She also emphasized on the requirement of subject knowledge, Aptitude skills and fundamentals to make the student eligible for placements.

Placements and Training: Placement Dean Rashmi Bhandary’s Exclusive Interaction with First-Year Students

Placements Dean Rashmi Bhandary conducted an interactive session with first-year students on how to prepare for placements and excel in technical interviews. She emphasized the importance of consistent practice on coding platforms like LeetCode and HackerRank to develop strong problem-solving skills. Maintaining a 9+ CGPA was highlighted as a crucial factor for getting shortlisted by top recruiters. Students were encouraged to strengthen their fundamentals in Data Structures, Algorithms, OOPs, DBMS, and Operating Systems, as these form the core of technical interview assessments. Additionally, she stressed the need for a strong resume showcasing projects, internships, and coding achievements. Along with technical skills, she also emphasized the importance of communication, confidence, and soft skills in clearing HR rounds.
