Department of Physical Education

The department strives to inculcate appropriate values and qualities required to develop sports persons and physical education professional at various levels. The Sahyadri campus is the centre for, sports, games, recreational activities, and for several competitive programmes. There is a multipurpose playground on the campus for 400mtrs Athletic track, Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Throwball , Basketball and Handball. Modern facilities for physical conditioning are available at the Indoor Gymnasium and Outdoor Gymnasium along with facilities for Table Tennis, Chess and Carom. Sahyadri students are able to participate regularly in games and sports activities throughout the year in State and Nation level competitions.

36th State Junior Athletics Championship 2021

Prajwal M Shetty of Second Year Electronics & Communication Engineering has won Silver Medal in Shot Put and Bronze Medal in Discus Throw in 36th State Junior Athletics Championship 2021, organized by Karnataka Athletics Association (R.) and Alvas Education Foundation (R.), held at Moodabidri. He has also achieved 6th Position in 18th National Federation Cup, Junior U20 Athletics Championship 2021 held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh during 25th to 27th January, 2021.

State Level Senior & Junior Swimming competition

Aditya Bhandary of first year Information Science & Engineering participated in State Senior Swimming competition and won Silver medal in 50 Mtrs butterfly, Bronze medal in 50 Mtrs freestyle, Bronze medal in 100 Mtrs. freestyle And
Bronze medal in 50 Mtrs Backstroke. This was held at Dravid Centre for sports Excellence, Bengaluru during 5th to 7th March'2021

ORGANIZATION OF VTU MANGALORE ZONE THROWBALL TOURNAMENT (WOMEN’S)

VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone women’s Throw ball Tournament was Organized by our college on 3rd October, 2019 at Sahyadri Campus. Mr. Devdas Hegde Trustee Bhandary foundation was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function. The tournament started with the invocation by Ms. Swathi 5th Sem Mech. Dr. Srinivas Rao Kunte (Principal) gave his presidential address. Vice Principal Prof. Balakrishna S.S wished all the teams’ good luck. Further the Guest inaugurated the court by cutting the ribbon and serving the ball. 12 teams from various colleges throughout Mangalore participated in this tournament. Final match was between Sahyadri & SDMIT, Ujire. SDMIT won the Mangalore zone Inter collegiate Throwball tournament. Valedictory ceremony was held at 4.00 p.m. Ms. Aishwarya from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore was awarded as Best Thrower, Ms. Suchira from St. Joseph Engineering College was awarded as Best Receiver & Ms. Lekha from SDMIT, Ujire was awarded as Best All Rounder. SDMIT, Ujire emerged as the Winners of the tournament, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management bagged the Runners Up Trophy, St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor won 3rd place & NMAMIT, Nitte 4th place. Principal Dr. Srinivas Rao Kunte, Prof Ramesh K.G. Dean Strategic & Mr. Sadanand H.S. gave away the prizes to the Winners & handed over the mementos to the Officials. Mr. Nikesh & Mr. Ganraj were the Masters of ceremony.


ORGANIZATION OF VTU LEVEL MANGALORE ZONE CRICKET SELECTION TRIALS (MEN)

Cricket team

VTU Mangaluru Zone Cricket Selection Trials for Men was organized by Sahyadri College of Engineering & management at Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru on 4th October 2019. A total of 45 Cricket players participated from various Engineering colleges of Mangaluru Zone. 5 Selection committee members attended the selection trials who were appointed from VTU to select the Mangalore zone cricket players. 16 Cricket players from Mangalore zone selected to participate in the Inter zone Cricket selection Trials

Inter_collegiate_cricket tournment

VTU Mangaluru Zone Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament 2020 is held at Sahyadri Riverside Ground during 4th to 20th March’2020. Seventeen teams from various colleges of Mangaluru Zone are participating in this Tournament. The Inaugural was held on 4th March’2020. Dr. Rajesh S, Dean-Academics inaugurated the Tournament. In his inaugural speech he welcomed the teams and motivated them to play with enthusiasm. Speaking about the importance of sports he said it contributes towards the mental and intellectual growth. Hence, equal importance should be given to sports and academics, he said. Dr. Rajesh wished the teams All the Very Best. Mr. DevadasHegde, Trustee-Bhandary Foundation was present. The inaugural match was played between Canara College of Engineering and Srinivas Institute of Technology. The Srinivas team won by 3 wickets.

Arena 2021 Athletic Meet “Arena 2021” was organised from March 30th to April 1st, 2021 at Sahyadri Campus. Rajesha Principal Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management inaugurated & declared the meet open. Approximately 250 students took part in the competition. Various Athletic events were held for the first-year students and all the winners were felicitated. Mr. Sampath Hegde First year B section (EC) won the Individual Championship in the Boys section, Ms. Sawmya Bhat First year A Section (E&C)l won the Individual Championship in the girl’s section, and over-all Champion ship in the boys section was won by the H Section . Over-all Champion ship in the girls section was won by the A Section. The Over-all Championship ( Boys& Girls combined) was won by the First year B Section. The event formally ended with Declaring the meet closed by Prof. S.S. Balakrishna (Vice Principal).
