Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival which is celebrated every year in the honour of Lord Shiva. Maha Shivratri means "the Great Night of Lord Shiva". On this day the devotees conduct overnight vigils, worship the “shivling” and chant the name of Lord Shiva. It is said that a devotee who worships Lord Shiva very sincerely on the auspicious day of Shivratri is absolved of sins and attains moksha.
