NSS Team organized a Talk: World Cancer Day - “Close the Care Gap”

World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on February 4. It is a global uniting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. It is a day which is globally marked to create awareness and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. On account of this day the NSS Team of Sahyadri organized a talk keeping in mind the theme of this year’s World Cancer Day that is “Close the Care Gap”.
This occasion was rightly graced by the Principal, Dr. Rajesha S; Dr. Rohanchandra R Gatty, MMBS, MS (General Surgery) & MCh (Surgical Oncology); Vice Principal, Prof. Balakrishna S S; Ms. Shreelatha, AAO and NSS officer along with the HOD’s of all the departments, teaching and non teaching staff.
Dr. Rohanchandra R Gatty is a well known oncologist and oncology surgeon throughout Mangaluru. He has been practising since the last 10 years and has been an Associate Professor in Fr. Mullers Oncology Centre, K S Hegde Medical College, Community Health Centre. He also works as an Oncologist (Cancer Surgeon) at Arogya Multi-Specialty Clinic, Mangaluru.
While addressing the audience, Dr. Rohanchandra R Gatty explained the serious term of Cancer in a very simple and understandable manner. His talk gave much emphasis on how perception and approach towards the issue of Cancer can bring about great change. By bringing about awareness, early detection of the disease with proper care and support would make a lot of difference on a larger and longer scale. His speech highlighted on improving our Emotional Quotient and making contributions towards this cause.
