Sessions conducted for First year CSE/DS/AI-DS/AI-ML and Cyber Security Students

As a part of Induction program, several other sessions were held on 14th Dec, 2021 for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), CSE-Data Science, CSE-Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, CSE-Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Students. Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering facilitated a session on “Your First Steps”. He spoke about the world without Computer Engineers, Career options, Big Recruiters and Tips for making Four years of most successful. The following 10 Most Important Tips for Computer Science & Engineering students were discussed: 1. Typing Speed
2. Grades Matter but Skills Matter More
3. Learn Smartly according to College Curriculum
4. Communication and Writing Skills
5. Learn by Implementing (Making Projects)
6. Apply for Good Internships
7. Start Using Competitive Sites
8. Be Aware of Good Programs and Explore New Things in First Year
9. Priority should NOT be given to Certificates but the learning outcome
10. Don’t Try to Learn All Languages in one go
Dr. Ananth Prabhu, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, conducted an interactive session for CSE-Cyber Security students. To make the students better understand the domain of cyber security, he presented a 2-hour lecture on Careers in Cyber Security and the Roadmap ahead. Students enjoyed the session with real-time illustrations, for example, a Black Cat Ransomware, written in RUST programming language and so on. Dr. Priya Kamath, Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, handled the session for CSE-AIML students. In her session, she covered the importance of Artificial Intelligence-Machine Learning in today’s world. The career opportunities as a machine learning engineer and the future of artificial intelligence was discussed with the students. While there are a lot of engineering colleges in the region, she laid out the importance of pursuing the degree from Sahyadri. Various initiatives by Sahyadri including Launchpads were discussed.
Prof. Ankitha K, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, handled the session for CSE-Data Science and AI-DS students. In her talk, she covered the need for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in brief, the prerequisites for learning AI and DS, Demand for Data Scientists and AI Engineers, and roadmap ahead for building a successful career. She also encouraged students to engage in Sahyadri initiatives in order to enhance their learning opportunities.
