MBAs attend Webinar on “Leadership Lessons from the Ordinary Heroes of Taj” organized by ISTD, Pune Chapter

Sahyadri has a MoU with ISTD, Mangaluru/Udupi Chapter because of which students and faculty get opportunities to attend webinars organized by various chapters of Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD) and also meet professionals from different corners of the world.
On 22nd Jan’ 2022, ISTD Pune Chapter organized a Webinar on “Leadership Lessons from the Ordinary Heroes of Taj” on ZOOM which was facilitated by Mr. H N Srinivas, Former Senior VP-HR, The Taj Group of Hotels and Advisor to TATA Trust. Mr. H N Srinivas narrated the 26/11 incident - Taj Mumbai Attack, outstanding leadership qualities observed in the workforce of Taj Hotel and also the reactive and proactive measures taken post the incident.
Key takeaways from the webinar:
• Core Values of a company should not be only on the walls/notice boards but should be genuinely practiced
• Give attention to all stakeholders – Understand the needs and expectations and deliver accordingly
• Valet Parking guy, Bell Boy and Senior waiter took bullets in order to save the guests
• Management Team bounced back saying – “Neighboring country has hurt us but they can’t beat us down”
In the Q&A session, it was a proud moment when the first question picked up from the chatbox to be answered was from Prof. Sushma V, Dept. of Business Administration-MBA. She asked – “In the Multimedia Case Study on Taj Mumbai Attack, she read that majority of the workforce of Taj are from rural areas. Is there any reason for such a pattern in hiring?” Mr. H N Srinivas answered this question mentioning that Taj hires for values and discipline and then trains the hired candidates on skills.
Overall, this webinar gave great insights and the same Case Study has been introduced in the HRM Subject of the Sahyadri MBA Autonomous Syllabus.
