Dept. of Civil Engineering observes Earth Day 2019

Department of Civil Engineering commemorates Earth Day 2019 with the theme "Protect our species". The chief guest of the function was Sri P Shridhar, Range Forest Officer, Mangaluru. The programme was presided by the Principal Dr. R Srinivas Rao Kunte. The function was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by watering the sapling.
Sri P Shridhar, in his address, highlighted the importance of saving trees and also emphasized on the fact that human beings have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and as a result, the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction. He also explained the role of engineers in saving environments and affecting sustainable development. He stated that engineers should use creativity, technology, and scientific knowledge to solve practical problems for a sustainable ecosystem.
The function then proceeded with the ceremonial series of the planting of the sapling in the Campus. The primary objective of this initiative was to make the environment a greener place to live in. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman; Mr. Devdas Hegde-Trustee, Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director of Research and Mr. Sunil Kumar, Head of Civil Engineering Dept were also present during this significant event.
