The prestigious event Hacktoberfest HackNight hosted at Sahyadri

In order to celebrate the month of open source with Hacktoberfest, Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) in association with Aptra Technologies Pvt Ltd hosted the event Hacktoberfest HackNight at Sahyadri during 12th to 13th Oct’19. Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, presided over the event. Prof. Prashanth Dudella, SPOC Coordinator-Smart India Hackathon, and Ms. Navya Bhat, Chairperson–SOSC, were also present.

Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) is a community driven by tech enthusiasts and open-source contributors, to help young students to be part of the open-source ecosystem by providing training and skill development.

In his address, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte spoke on what Hactoberfest is all about and encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly. Prof. Prashanth Dudella, spoke about the importance of hackathons and gave insights on how to crack Smart India Hackathon.

The main event started off with a workshop followed by an 18-hour Hackathon wherein more than 120 students got together as teams and worked on projects under various real life problem statement given by organizations. The projects were then open sourced through GitHub paving way for new open source contributors to be born. There was also an opportunity given to the participants to solve problem statement and get Internship in Aptra.

Winners of Hacktoberfest 2019: Team X to Infinity, comprising of Abhijit Serigara, Deepak Nayak, Ullas Kunder and Saurabh Shetty from SMVIT College, Bantakal.

Runners-up: Team Dream Skill, comprising of Abdul Raquf, Muhammud Shayiz, M. Elambilat and Vishnu Bhagiratan from PA College of Engineering, Mangaluru.

Best Freshers’ Project: Fawad Abid Hussain and Vishnu N.V., from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru.
