Project Management Consultancy by the Dept. of Civil Engineering for Construction of Bridge cum Salt Water Exclusion Dam across Netravati River

Dept. of Civil Engineering was awarded to offer Project Management Consultancy for Construction of Bridge Cum Salt Water Exclusion Dam across Netravati River near Harekala Village in Mangaluru Taluk of Dakshina Kannada District. The project is taken up by the Dept. of Minor Irrigation and Ground Water Development Division, Mangaluru.
The construction of the Bridge cum saltwater exclusion dam across the Netravati River near Harekala Village is the first project of its kind in the state. The duration of the project is 18 months. The length of the bridge being 520 meters has 57 gates including 5 stop log gates with size of the gates being 8.5 X 2 Meters. The proposed bridge is 9.5 meters wide with a roadway of 7.5 meters for vehicular movement and with a one-meter footpath on both sides. The total project cost is estimated to be 200 Crores. Once the project is completed, the district will have enough supply of water throughout the year. At present, during summer, there is a scarcity of water in some places which can be mitigated through this project. Besides providing drinking water to the fast developing regions of Mangaluru Assembly constituency, the bridge would offer a breather to thousands of residents of Konaje, Deralakatte, Mudupu, for a faster commute to NH 75 near Adyarkatte as well as to the city.
Dept. of Civil Engineering, under the leadership of Prof. Hemantha Prabhu B is offering Project Management Consultancy for the present work. The department is working rigorously towards the project by taking up regular site visits, testing of materials used for construction, reporting the progress to the Government Bodies and so on
A delegation under the leadership of MLA Mr. U T Khader inspected the work at Harekala Site on Friday, 12th February, 2021 and interacted with the officials. MLA also interacted with the Sahyadri Team and tracked the progress.
