CoE Data Science and Analytics, Dept. of CSE organized a Webinar on “Application of Mathematics in Data Science”

On 17th Jan, 2022, the Center of Excellence in Data Science and Analytics, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, organized a Webinar on “Application of Mathematics in Data Science” facilitated by Dr. Mohammed Javed, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, IIIT Allahabad.
Data science is the field of study that combines domain expertise, programming skills, and knowledge of mathematics and statistics to extract meaningful insights from data. Data science careers require mathematical study as machine learning algorithms, performing analyses and discovering insights from data require mathematics.
The eminent resource person Dr. Mohammed Javed introduced Data Science and need of Mathematics in Data science and neatly conveyed the following topics with illustrative usage:
• Data Science: Role of Mathematics
• Linear Algebra, Statistics
• Cleansing, Aggregation and Manipulation of Data to Perform advanced data analytics
• Understanding the language of Mathematics
• Linear Algebra with colours
• Column space and Basis of Matrix for Data Science
• Factorization of Matrix
• Foundation: Computer Graphics
• Wavelet Transform, Discrete Cosine Transform Basic Functions for Data Science
• Applications such as Image Processing, Satellite applications, Image and Video Processing, Image Processing and Compression
The webinar was initiated by introduction and welcoming delegates by Dr. Mustafa Basthikodi, Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering. Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director-R&D and Consultancy and Dr. Rajesh S, Principal, addressed students mentioning the importance of organizing such webinars, need of Mathematics in Data Science and Computing Systems. They appreciated the team and advised students to take part in such knowledge dissemination sessions effectively. Dr. Pushpalatha, Head-Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and faculty members also witnessed the event and shared their opinions. All students from 3rd semester Data Science and 3rd semester AI and ML participated and interacted lively during the talk.
