CoE in Digital Forensics Intelligence and Cyber Security

Digital Forensics Intelligence

About CoE Cyber Security
The CoE in Cyber Security was formed in 2018 by Sahyadri College of Engineering and Managment , as part of the Technology Innovation Strategy, As we know the cybercrime is one of the ill full effects in the society causing new threat for common man. Many resources have given alarming inputs that the cybercrime rates have been increased 5 times in last four years. These may escalate exponentially further, if these are not prevented by technological interventions. For making this possible we felt there is a need of well-equipped cyber security and forensics lab in this coastal area of Karnataka. Centre of Excellence in Cyber-security is formed to address the skill gap, awareness and technological innovation by a well-equipped cyber security and forensics lab in this coastal area of Karnataka.

Vision & Mission

Our Vision is to deliver cyber security solutions and services to Secure Digital Process and enterprise.
Mission:
-Identify and address the critical challenges in cybersecurity.
–Develop quality forensics and cyber Solution to provide training and service to stockholders.

-Transform research results in sustainable technologies and product development.

Objectives

It is indeed a joyous and a proud moment for Sahyadri to announce that its students have bagged gold medals and ranks! The rigorous and relentless efforts of faculty and students and also their hard work, has brought fame and pride to Sahyadri. Sahyadri is delighted with the students achievements and rightfully so. Kudos!

Ms. Pavithree B. Shetty (USN: 4SF14CS186) bags FOUR GOLD MEDALS having secured FIRST RANK for her outstanding academic performance in VTU examinations. Out of 15,919 students of Computer Science & Engineering who appeared for the examinations, Ms. Pavithree stood first in the University. She isaccoladed with four most prestigious medals viz. “PESIT Gold Medal”, “R.N. Shetty Gold Medal”, “Jyothi Gold Medal” and “VTU Gold Medal” by the honorable Vice Chancellor of VTU Dr. Karisiddappa during the VTU annual convocation held at “JananaSangama”, VTU, Belagavi.

About Pavithree B. Shetty

“To have a gold medal around one’s neck is an indescribable feeling.” Ms. Pavithree B. Shetty conveys a beautiful message at this joyous moment of her life.

• Her brief Profile

Ms. Pavithree B. Shetty is a Computer Science & Engineering Graduate from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. She is the daughter of Mr. H BalakrishnaShetty, a Businessman and Mrs. Amitha B. Shetty. At a young age of 12, she secured 73rd rank in the country in Junior Level of HRD exams. The very next year she bagged 7th Rank in the state in Science Talent Hunt. In SSLC board exams, she stood 1st in Koppa Taluk.

• Her achievements at Sahyadri

Ms. Pavithree’s project titled 'Smart City' secured 1st place in State Level Project Exhibition, 'Srishti-2016'. Her final year project 'Recognition of Handwritten Characters and converting them to Editorial Format using Machine Learning Techniques' got a grant from the VTU. She was awarded the 'Best Outgoing Student’ of CS Department and got placed in Moonraft Innovation Labs with a package of Rs 8 lakhs per annum.

• Her message:

“My aspiration is to become a professor and pass on my knowledge to the coming generations. From a very young age I had an urge to teach others, and when I got a chance to listen to Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam live, his words inspired me to become a professor. He wasn't just a source of inspiration but my role model in my life who taught me that it is not necessary to be a teacher to teach”.

“I'm really happy at the moment. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the guidance of our faculties and management. I would like to thank God, my parents and my family who always supported me in all my endeavors. I'm grateful to Prof. SudheerShetty, Dean-Examinations, who is my personal mentor, guide and whose valuable suggestions at every stage have finally borne fruit today”.

I would also like to thank Dr. ManjunathBhandary, Chairman, and Sahyadri College of Engineering &Management for providing us with all the facilities and practical based learning which helps in the overall development of a student's skill set. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Principal, Deans, HoD and the whole department of Computer Science & Engineering for being very supportive at every stage. Last but not the least I would like to thank my friends for always being there for me”.

‘I'd always be grateful to this beautiful institution which has been the backbone to my success”.

• Mentors are more than role models

Some folks think that mentor is really just another word for role model. Mentors certainly are expected to be a role model for mentees in a variety of areas, such as relating to peers, work-life balance, and ethics, but merely being a role model does not make you a mentor. Being a mentor means interacting with a mentee and providing support, advice, and feedback to the mentee – in other words, it requires involvement with the mentee.

•Mentors Roles and Responsibilities:

Communicating Expectations: Have a clear understanding of your expectations for your mentee,Clearly communicate those expectations,Stay flexible in changing expectations or plans,Create goals with milestones and deliverables,Adapt your feedback to your mentee’s learning style and Be realistic about setting timelines.

Working Together: Advise on what you know and admit the things you don’t know, Give good examples,Recognize your mentee’s weaknesses and build on his/her strengths,Offer constructive feedback,Evaluate progress,Be your mentee’s supporter when he/she reaches his/her goals and Be consistent and reliable.

Meeting All the Goals: After mentoring is completed, follow up on successes,Provide an evaluation of the experience and Repeat the mentoring process with others.

A mentee is someone who has identified a specific personal or professional goal and who believes that the guidance and help of a mentor – and being held accountable to the mentor – can help them achieve their goal.

• Mentee Roles & Responsibilities:

Identifying Roles: Have a clear understanding of why you want to be mentored and Select a Mentor based on criteria relevant to your goals.

Communicating Expectations: Have a clear understanding of your expectations for your mentor, Clearly communicate those expectations, Stay flexible in changing expectations or plans, Create goals with milestones and deliverables, Inform your mentor about your preferred learning style and Be realistic about setting timelines.

Working Together: Listen and contribute to the conversation,Understand that your mentor will not have all the answers, Accept constructive feedback,Set time aside for self-reflection,Evaluate progress,Celebrate success,Be consistent and reliable.

Meeting All of the Goals: Provide your mentor with updates after the mentoring is completed,Provide an evaluation of the experience,Say thank you,Give back to the profession and volunteer to become an mentor.

Teaching Learning Process

Teaching Learning Process

Peer to Peer Learning

In order to improve the student learning process and self-esteem, cooperative and peer to peer learning process is practiced. The process involves more of student’s involvement, where they design various tasks and involve their peers to take up that task there by improving positive relationship and garner wider friends circle.

Guidelines of peer to peer learning process:
  • Class Representative (CR) will be in charge of taking attendance of the students during respective hours.
  • Faculty members will identify a team of four students (Called peer team) in their subject.
  • They will engage the class. He/she should elect a topic (from syllabus) for which they must deliver a presentation during the respective hours.
  • Toward the end of each class, a small quiz about five questions will be conducted as a test, which will be evaluated by the peer team itself at later stage.
  • The peer team has to submit consolidated report of the test to respective faculty member.
  • Faculty member will discuss result of Quiz in the subsequent classes and clarify the doubts.

Case Study Based Approach

Case studies are given to the students to enhance the communication and presentation skills of the students.

Guidelines for case study based approach are as follow
  • Case studies can be given on topics which are relevant in syllabus but should have some impact of application of the topic with real world examples.
  • If case studies are given in programming or problematic subjects then students are expected to show the demonstration during their presentation.
  • Generally case studies should be assigned to a team of students.
  • Appropriate rubrics should be developed for evaluation of the case studies.
